  • How It Happened: Danielle Chatten scored in the fourth minute of overtime to lead Edinboro to a 2-1 win in overtime over Slippery Rock. The win snapped Slippery Rock's six-game winning streak. The two teams battled to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation. Edinboro had the only two shots in overtime. The second was by Chatten, with the senior forward taking a pass from Brittnie Spithaler and drilling the ball into the right corner of the net for the winning goal at 93:20. The victory was the first for the Fighting Scots over The Rock since 2016. Following a scoreless first half, Edinboro took a 1-0 lead on Spithaler's fourth goal of the season just 35 seconds into the second half.  Slippery Rock would knot the score at 1-1 at 75:15, as Rachel Edge scored, assisted by Shannon McIntyre off a free kick. Edinboro held an 18-8 advantage in shots. Anna Voelker picked up the win in goal as the sophomore recorded four saves. SRU's Emma Yoder totaled nine saves.
MATCH STORYLINES
  • Despite losing at Gannon on Wednesday night, 1-0, Edinboro clinched a berth in the PSAC Tournament for the first time since 2016 thanks to Seton Hill's loss earlier in the day. The loss dropped Edinboro to 9-3-3 overall and 9-1-3 in the PSAC West. It snapped an incredible school-record string of 12 straight matches without a defeat, coinciding with the start of PSAC play.
  • While Edinboro has been a huge surprise after being picked to finish sixth in the Western Division in the coaches' preseason poll, Slippery Rock's lofty standing was expected. SRU was the preseason favorite and comes in with a 13-3-0 overall record and 12-2-0 in league play. That comes after a 4-0 win over Cal U on Wednesday. The Rock is 6-1 since the 2-1 overtime loss to Edinboro on October 2, the loss a 2-1 setback to Indiana(Pa.).
  • Edinboro can clinch second place in the PSAC West with a win or a tie, while a win for Slippery Rock will clinch the division title.
  • Edinboro is ranked sixth in the initial NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings, and is fifth in the United Soccer Coaches regional poll. Slippery Rock is third in the NCAA ranking and sixth in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
  • Ten different players have scored goals for Edinboro. Brittnie Spithaler and Danielle Chatten lead the team with 5 goals and 5 assists for 15 points. Chatten has moved into 11th place in career goals with 22 goals, along with ranking 11th in career points (59) and tied for sixth in career assists (15). Rebecca Manns has 3 goals and 4 assists, and is now tied for sixth in career assists with 15.
  • Sophomore Anna Voelker has been in goal for every minute and has a 0.93 GAA, good for sixth in the PSAC, with 6 shutouts, which ranks fourth in the PSAC. She was named the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week after posting a pair of shutouts earlier in the year. She saw a streak of 371-plus minutes without allowing a goal come to an end at IUP.
  • Edinboro posted a 6-11-0 finish a year ago while fielding a young squad. Head coach Gary Kagiavas welcomes back nine starters for his 24th season as head coach.  Kagiavas has a 227-181-40 record, all as Edinboro's only head coach. The Fighting Scots have qualified for the PSAC Playoffs 11 times, with seven of those in the last nine years. Entering the season, Kagiavas ranked 24th among active Division II coaches in victories. In addition, he ranks second in wins among PSAC women's soccer coaches, exceeded only by West Chester's Betsy Anne Kempf-Townsley with 332 wins.  He has been selected the PSAC Coach of the Year three times (2001, '05, '07).
  • Slippery Rock has recorded six shutouts this year as sophomore Emma Yoder has recorded a 0.74 GAA.  Sophomore forward Rachel Edge leads SRU in scoring with 14 goals and 7 assist for 35 points. She is tied for the PSAC lead in goals while ranking second in assists and points per match.
