  • The Short Story: Edinboro traveled to Erie and gave PSAC Northwest Division preseason favorite Gannon all they could handle before falling in four sets by scores of 22-25, 25-22, 25-21, and 25-9. The first three sets featured plenty of long rallies, good defense, and strong play at the net by both teams, but an experienced Gannon squad was able to pull away late in sets two and three after Edinboro jumped out to a 1-0 lead. Freshman Bella Burrelli paced the Fighting Scots with a season-high 15 kills, and Cierah Jackson boosted her kills total to 951 with 14.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Edinboro took control of a tight first set, building a 19-13 lead on block assists by Paige Morris and Sally Sterkel. Gannon ran off three straight points, but back-to-back kills by Bella Burrelli boosted the lead to 21-16. The Lady Knights had one last run in them, pulling to within a point at 23-22. Burrelli's kill made it match point, and Cierah Jackson and Erica Sharp combined for the winning point on a block at the net.
  • Gannon broke a 2-2 tie in the second set with four straight points. Edinboro pulled within a point on several occasions, but the Fighting Scots could never grab the lead. The last came at 21-20 on a Burrelli kill, but the Lady Knights scored the next two points to hold off Edinboro.
  • Edinboro took the early lead in the third set, but it would go back and forth, with six ties. Gannon broke a 16-16 on a kill by Ashley McClung, starting a string of seven straight points to give the Lady Knights a 23-16 advantage. A run of four straight points, capped by a kill by Jackson and block assists by Sharp and Jackson, pulled the Scots to within 23-20, but the deficit proved too much to overcome.
  • After three tight sets that could have gone either way, Gannon took control early in the fourth set. An 8-0 run that gave the Lady Knights a 16-3 lead made for a sizeable margin.
