MATCH STORYLINES
  • Edinboro snapped a three-game losing streak on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Seton Hill. That clinched the second seed in the PSAC West, allowing Edinboro to host a PSAC Tournament first round playoff game. The Fighting Scots enter the postseason with a 10-5-3 overall record and finished at 10-3-3 in the PSAC West. It is the 13th in 24 seasons that Edinboro has won 10-or-more matches in head coach Gary Kagiavas' 24 seasons. Mercyhurst, meanwhile, comes in as the number three seed with an overall record of 11-5-2 and league mark of 10-5-1.
  • The Fighting Scots are making their first appearance in the PSAC Tournament since 2016, and 12th overall.  They have never won the PSAC championship, advancing to the title game in 2015 before losing to East Stroudsburg, 2-1 in overtime.
  • Edinboro was picked to finish sixth in the PSAC West in the coaches' preseason poll. After losing their first two matches, the Fighting Scots went undefeated over the next 12 matches (9-0-3), the best stretch in team history.  Edinboro remained sixth in the second NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings released early last week, and is seventh in the United Soccer Coaches regional poll.
  • Eleven different players have scored goals for Edinboro. Danielle Chatten leads the way with 9 goals and 5 assists for 23 points. The senior forward has moved into 10th place in career goals with 26 goals, along with ranking 11th in career points (67) and tied for sixth in career assists (15). Brittnie Spithaler, a sophomore forward, adds 6 goals and 5 assists for 17 points. Rebecca Manns has 4 goals and 7 assists, and is fifth in career assists with 18.
  • Sophomore Anna Voelker has been in goal for every minute and has a 1.15 GAA, good for sixth in the PSAC, with 7 shutouts. The 7 shutouts ties the school record and gives her 10 career shutouts, good for a tie for fifth all-time. She had a streak of 371-plus minutes without allowing a goal come to an end at IUP.
  • Edinboro posted a 6-11-0 finish a year ago while fielding a young squad. Kagiavas has a 228-183-40 record, all as Edinboro's only head coach. The Fighting Scots have qualified for the PSAC Playoffs 12 times, with eight of those in the last ten years. Entering the season, Kagiavas ranked 24th among active Division II coaches in victories. In addition, he ranks second in wins among PSAC women's soccer coaches, exceeded only by West Chester's Betsy Anne Kempf-Townsley with 332 wins.  He has been selected the PSAC Coach of the Year three times (2001, '05, '07).
  • Mercyhurst enters Tuesday's match with an overall record of 11-5-2 while posting a 10-5-1 record in the PSAC West. Head coach Jon Arlet's team is riding a five-game winning streak, allowing just two goals in that period. The Lakers were picked to finish fourth in the PSAC West in the coaches' preseason poll. Alyssa Otto is the leading scorer with 14 goals and 4 assists for 32 points. The freshman forward ranks fourth in the PSAC in goals per game and points per game. Senior midfielder Maya Bauer adds 7 goals and 3 assists for 17 points. Vilde Wold is in goal for the Lakers. The senior has a 0.75 GAA with 10 shutouts, ranking fourth in the PSAC in goals against average.
UP NEXT
  • The winner of Tuesday's first round game will meet the winner of the West Chester-Bloomsburg quarterfinal game on Friday, November 15 at a site and time to be determined. Bloomsburg is the number one seed in the Eastern Division and West Chester is fourth. The highest remaining seed in the Western Division will host the PSAC Final Four.
