THE GAME STORIES
  • Edinboro looks to snap a two-game losing streak after opening the season with four straight wins. The Fighting Scots returned to action after Thanksgiving last Sunday with a 100-71 loss to a hot-shooting Lake Erie team. Edinboro is in the midst of a four-game road swing, and does not return to McComb Fieldhouse until January 6, hosting West Chester.
  • The Fighting Scots were picked to finish tied for seventh in the PSAC coaches' preseason poll, but jumped out to a 4-0 start, the fourth win coming on Jaryn Simpson's 3-pointer with 0.8 seconds left for the winning basket in a 73-72 win. The next day, Shippensburg ended the win streak with an 81-65 win.
  • Millersville is also looking to end a losing streak after suffering its third straight loss on Tuesday at Lincoln, 78-57. All three losses have come on the road. The Marauders are 3-4 overall and 0-2 in PSAC action, with losses at Mercyhurst (87-85) and Gannon (71-62). However, the Marauders are 2-0 at Pucillo Gymnasium, They were picked to finish fourth in the PSAC East.                   
  • The Fighting Scots showcase the backcourt tandem of Anthony Coleman and Jaryn Simpson. Coleman averages a team-high 16.7 ppg. while Simpson comes in at 14.8 ppg. The 6'3 guards are each pulling down 5.7 rpg. They are also Edinboro's top 3-point threats, with Simpson making 19-of-42 and Coleman 14-of-32. Simpson leads the team with 31 assists and has committed just 12 turnovers. Both are former second team All-PSAC West honorees. Coleman earned the honor in 2017-18 after averaging 15.2 ppg. The 6'3" guard went down with a season-ending injury early in the fourth game a year ago. In his absence, Simpson stepped up to average18.0 ppg. a year ago while earning All-PSAC West recognition.  He made 76-of-210 3-pointers, and was at 90.2 percent from the line (110-of-122). He set a school-record for free throw percentage while leading the PSAC, as well.
  • Trey Staunch is a third Fighting Scot in double figures. The former all-conference performer in football is averaging 11.0 ppg. and a team-high 6.2 rpg. while shooting 50.0 percent from the floor (27-of-54). The 6'4", 285 lb. graduate student muscled his way for 14.4 ppg. and a team-leading 7.4 rpg. a year ago.
  • Daylon Harris, a 6'5" senior, has jumped off the bench to provide 9.2 ppg. and is also shooting 50.0 percent from the floor (20-of-40). Alex Jay comes in at 9.0 ppg. and comes off a career-best 17 points vs. Lake Erie, making five 3-pointers. The 6'3" junior adds 5.3 rpg.

HEAD COACH 
Pat Cleary (Edinboro '99) -- 78-88, 7th Year
  • After serving as an assistant coach under Greg Walcavich for 14 years, Pat Cleary was introduced as Edinboro's tenth head coach on March 26, 2013. He is now in his seventh season at the helm and has a 78-88 record, with three teams making the PSAC Tournament.           
  • Cleary's first three teams improved each year, with his 2015-16 team earning the third seed in the PSAC West Tournament with a 15-11 overall record and 14-8 league mark.
  • The 2017-18 Fighting Scots were picked to finish eighth in the PSAC West Coaches' Preseason Poll. They would surprise the league with a fourth place finish at 13-9 in league play, and 18-11 overall. Edinboro would defeat Pitt-Johnstown in the opening round of the PSAC Tournament, then hand top-seeded Indiana(Pa.) a defeat in the quarterfinals. The playoff run came to an end with a loss to eventual PSAC champion East Stroudsburg in the semifinals. It marked Edinboro's first appearance in the PSAC Final Four since 2008.
  • Cleary was named the 2018 PSAC West Coach of the Year. The 18 wins were the most by the Fighting Scots since the 2012-13 team won 18 games.  
  • He guided Edinboro to the PSAC Tournament for the first time in 2014-15 with a 14-13 record, a four-game improvement over his first year, after being chosen to finish eighth in the PSAC West preseason poll.
SCOUTING MILLERSVILLE
  • Millersville is under the direction of head coach Casey Stitzel, who is in his 12th year at the helm. The Marauders went 16-13 a year ago and finished fourth in the PSAC East, their highest finish since 2014-15. They were picked to finish fourth in the coaches' preseason poll.
  • The Marauders are off to a 3-4 start and look to snap a three-game losing streak. They come off a 78-57 loss at Lincoln on Tuesday, and prior to that opened PSAC action with losses at Mercyhurst (87-85) and Gannon (71-62). Two of the four losses have been by a total of three points.
  • Four Marauders are scoring in double digits, led by Jade Faulkner at 20.2 ppg. The 6'4" sophomore guard adds 5.3 rpg. and has a team-high 35 assists. He was a second team All-PSAC East selection last year. Caden Najdawi adds 13.0 ppg. and a team-high 8.2 rpg. He is a 6'8" junior. Khari Williams and James Sullivan each add 11.6 ppg
