MATCH STORYLINES
  • Edinboro opened the 2019 campaign on Thursday, September 5 with a 3-0 loss at fifth-ranked Bloomsburg. The Huskies are the defending PSAC champions. That was followed by a 3-2 loss to Notre Dame(Oh.) a week ago.
  • The Fighting Scots were scheduled to open PSAC West against Mercyhurst a week ago. That contest fell victim to the weather. After nearly a three-hour delay due to lightning, the teams took the field just before 9 p.m. They would play for less than seven minutes before another lightning strike nearby signaled the end of the contest. The match will now be made up on Monday, September 23 at 6 p.m., and will be played in its entirety.
  • Edinboro picked up its first win of the season on Saturday with a 2-1 triumph over IUP. The Fighting Scots scored both goals in the first half. The first was by Brittnie Spithaler at 21:56, assisted by Danielle Chatten and Rebecca Manns. In the 39th minute, Jessica Frank scored on a penalty kick. That goal would stand up after IUP closed the margin to 2-1 with a goal in the 87th minute. Anna Voelker had two key saves in the second half and totaled 4 saves.
  • The Fighting Scots were picked to finish sixth in the PSAC West, while Cal U was voted ninth. With the new divisional format, the teams will meet twice this year.
  • Edinboro has scored four goals this season, with two coming on penalty kicks. In addition to Franks' goal vs. IUP, Sidney Dobbins scored on a penalty kick against Notre Dame(Ohio).
  • Edinboro has won the last four meetings against the Vulcans and is 4-0-1 since 2013. The Fighting Scots claimed a 2-1 win a year ago. They have allowed just one goal during the four-match winning streak.
  • Edinboro posted a 6-11-0 finish a year ago while fielding a young squad. Head coach Gary Kagiavas welcomes back nine starters for his 24th season as head coach.  Kagiavas has a 220-180-37 record, all as Edinboro's only head coach. The Fighting Scots have qualified for the PSAC Playoffs 11 times, with seven of those in the last nine years. With 219 wins, Kagiavas ranks 24th among active Division II coaches in victories. In addition, he ranks second in wins among PSAC women's soccer coaches, exceeded only by West Chester's Betsy Anne Kempf-Townsley with 332 wins.  He has been selected the PSAC Coach of the Year three times (2001, '05, '07).
  • Edinboro returns its top four scorers, including leading scorer Danielle Chatten. The senior forward finished with 7 goals and an assist for 15 points. She is tied for 14th in career points (46) and 14th in career goals (17).
  • Brittnie Spithaler added 5 goals and 2 assists for 12 points, while Rebecca Manns had 3 goals and a team-leading 5 assists. The redshirt junior forward has led the team in assists each of her first two seasons and is 15th in career assists (12).
  • Junior Cameron Bujnoski earned third team United Soccer Coaches NCAA All-Atlantic Region honors. She was one of only three players to start all 17 matches while playing defender.
  • Cal U comes in with a 2-1-0 overall record and is 1-1-0 in the PSAC West. The Vulcans opened the season with a 2-1 win over West Liberty before dropping a 3-1 decision at IUP. They handed Clarion a 1-0 defeat in two overtimes on Saturday.
