MATCH STORYLINES
  • After opening the season with back-to-back losses to fifth-ranked Bloomsburg (3-0) and Notre Dame(Oh.) (3-2), Edinboro has run off two straight wins in PSAC West competition to improve to 2-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the PSAC West. The Fighting Scots posted a 2-1 win over Indiana(Pa.), and followed that up with a 4-0 win at Cal U on the strength of three late goals.
  • Clarion is 1-3-0 and 0-3-0 in the PSAC West after suffering a 5-1 loss to Pitt-Johnstown on Wednesday. The game before that, the Golden Eagles lost 1-0 to Cal U in double overtime. Clarion has lost three straight contests since opening the season with a 1-0 win over Ursuline. The Golden Eagles have scored just two goals this year while allowing nine. Madison Spiko and Leann Wynder have accounted for Clarion's goals.
  • The Fighting Scots evened their record at 2-2-0 on Wednesday as Rebecca Manns scored a pair of goals and Edinboro scored three late goals. Edinboro opened the scoring almost immediately, finding the back of the net at 2:02 as Manns scored her first goal of the season, taking a pass from Brittnie Spithaler. Edinboro would add three goals in the final 14 minutes to pull away. Manns scored her second goal on a header off a free kick, assisted by Cameron Bujnoski, to make it 2-0 at 76:28. Less than four minutes later, at 80:22, Sidney Dobbins scored her second goal of the season, assisted by Danielle Chatten, for a 3-0 lead. The margin grew to 4-0 at the 89:14 on Audrey Taylor's first career goal, assisted by Chatten. Sophomore Anna Voelker had four saves for her first shutout of the season and fourth of her career.
  • The Fighting Scots were picked to finish sixth in the PSAC West, while Clarion was voted eighth. With the new divisional format, the teams will meet twice this year.
  • Edinboro has never lost to Clarion, owning a 20-0-4 mark against the Golden Eagles.  The Fighting Scots won last year's meeting, 3-0, and tied 1-1 at Clarion in 2017.
  • Edinboro posted a 6-11-0 finish a year ago while fielding a young squad. Head coach Gary Kagiavas welcomes back nine starters for his 24th season as head coach.  Kagiavas has a 220-180-37 record, all as Edinboro's only head coach. The Fighting Scots have qualified for the PSAC Playoffs 11 times, with seven of those in the last nine years. With 219 wins, Kagiavas ranks 24th among active Division II coaches in victories. In addition, he ranks second in wins among PSAC women's soccer coaches, exceeded only by West Chester's Betsy Anne Kempf-Townsley with 332 wins.  He has been selected the PSAC Coach of the Year three times (2001, '05, '07).
