Fighting Scots Hoopsters Spend the Afternoon at Pa. Soldiers & Sailors Home

EDINBORO, Pa. -- Rivals on the basketball court. members of the Edinboro and Gannon men's and women's basketball teams took a break from their preparations for Friday's doubleheader to spend the afternoon playing bingo with residents at the Pennsylvania Soldiers' & Sailors' Home. The Soldiers' & Sailors' Home is part of an initiative the two schools have undertaken -- EUknighted 2020. The focus is to assist the home's members, including raising funds in a variety of ways.

That includes a pair of Hoopy Hours prior to the two scheduled doubleheaders this year. The first will take place on Friday, January 3 at Molly Brannigan's in downtown Erie prior to the evening doubleheader at Gannon's Hammermill Center. The Hoopy Hour will run from 4-7 p.m. The basketball tips off at 5:30 with the women's game, followed by the men's contest at 7:30 p.m.

The second Hoopy Hour will take place on February 5 at the Edinboro Hotel when the Fighting Scots host Gannon at McComb Fieldhouse. Once again the pre-game festivities will run from 4-7 p.m., with basketball at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.

On Thursday, the players sat down and spent time with the residents of the Pa. Soldiers' & Sailors' Home playing bingo. The competition was friendly and spirited, much as it should be when the teams take to the court on Friday night. And it was all for a great cause.
