THE GAME STORIES
  • Something must give as Edinboro and Seton Hill both look to snap extended losing streaks. The Fighting Scots opened the season with four straight wins, but a tough schedule and a couple injuries have taken their toll. Edinboro comes in with a 5-10 record, 2-9 in the PSAC, and has lost six straight games. Seton Hill suffered its fourth straight loss on Sunday to Shippensburg, 73-57, and comes with 2-12 ledger, 1-10 in the PSAC.
  • Edinboro is wrapping up a three-game homestand. The Fighting Scots have faced a very difficult schedule of late prior to last Friday's contest with Clarion. The combined record of Edinboro's previous four opponent's coming into the game was 46-8, with IUP ranked seventh nationally and West Chester tenth.
  • The Fighting Scots were picked to finish tied for seventh with Seton Hill in the PSAC coaches' preseason poll.  Edinboro is averaging 72.1 ppg., good for 15th in the PSAC, and is 17th in scoring defense, allowing 84.2 ppg. Seton Hill ranks 17th in the PSAC in scoring at 66.5 ppg., and is 14th in scoring defense at 77.7 ppg.
  • The Fighting Scots have been without leading scorer Anthony Coleman the last two games due to an injury. The 6'3" redshirt senior is averaging 18.8 ppg. and has made 33-of-79 3-pointers. He is sixth in the PSAC in scoring. He is second on the team in rebounding at 5.7 rpg., along with being second on the team with 12 steals. He has had six games of 20-or-more points, including a pair of 30-point efforts. He matched his career high with 32 points at Millersville, followed by 30 points in the win at Kutztown. Coleman was a second team All-PSAC West selection in 2017-18, then missed most of the 2018-19 season with an injury, playing in just four games.
  • After earning second team All-PSAC West honors a year ago, junior Jaryn Simpson is enjoying another strong season. In fact, he comes off the top scoring effort of his career. The 6'3" junior scored a career-high 38 points against Clarion, making 13-of-25 field goals, including 5-of-10 3-pointers, and 10-of-10 free throws. The third 30-point effort of his career boosted his scoring average to 16.6 ppg.  He adds 5.3 rpg., along with a team-high 60 assists and 14 steals. He ranks third in assists in the PSAC and has made 38-of-94 3-pointers. That's good for third in the conference in 3-pointers made per game (2.9). A year ago, Simpson averaged a team-high 18.0 ppg., making 76-of-210 3-pointers. he set a school record for free throw at 90.2 percent from the line, making 110-of-122. That figure led the PSAC, as well.
  • Trey Staunch is the third Fighting Scot in double figures. The former all-conference performer at offensive tackle in football is averaging 13.7 ppg. and a team-high 7.5 rpg. while shooting 51.6 percent from the floor (80-of-155), good for sixth in the PSAC. He ranks third in the PSAC in free throw percentage at 86.8 percent (46-of-53). Staunch has scored in double figures the last seven games, and has had two double-doubles in the last four games. Over the last seven games, he is averaging 17.3 ppg. and 9.4 rpg. The 6'4", 285 lb. graduate student muscled his way for 14.4 ppg. and a team-leading 7.4 rpg. a year ago.
  • Anthony Allen has seen limited action as Staunch's backup, but the 6'8" senior enjoyed his best game vs. IUP. He made 5-of-6 field goals to finish with a career-high 10 points, adding five rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.
  • Daylon Harris, a 6'5" senior, has started the last eight games after coming off the bench the first seven contests. He is averaging 9.4 ppg., and recently scored 18 points vs. Cal.  Alex Jay comes in at 6.7 ppg. The 6'3" junior adds 5.7 rpg. and has made 21-of-58 3-pointers. He comes off a 10-point, 6-rebound effort against Clarion.
  • Jack Gallagher did not score a point against Clarion, yet provided a huge boost. The freshman guard had played in just five games for a total of 17 minutes prior to entering in the first half on Friday night. He would play 18 minutes, providing four rebounds, three assists, and three steals, along with a huge amount of energy.
