Tim Flynn, Jarrod King to be Inducted into Pa. Wrestling Hall of Fame

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association has announced its Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame Class of 2020, with the nine-member class including a pair of individuals who enjoyed outstanding careers at Edinboro. Former head coach Tim Flynn and former national champion Jarrod King are among the inductees.

The 2020 induction ceremonies are set for Sunday, May 17 at the Mountainview Country Club in Boalsburg, Pa.  The induction ceremonies will begin at 12:30 pm with a hospitality hour.  The banquet meal will follow beginning at 1:30 pm and induction of new members will start promptly at 2:30 pm.

In addition to Flynn and King, the other inductees are Dave Ciafre (coach – District 10), Bobby Ferraro (wrestler/contributor – District 4), Bob Ferraro, Sr. (wrestler/coach/contributor – District 4/11), Joel Kislin (wrestler – District 2), Walter Peppelman (wrestler – District 3), Scott Schleicher (wrestler – District 11), and Frank Vulcano (contributor – District 7).

Flynn is being inducted his accomplishments as a coach and a wrestler. He enjoyed a stellar career at Penn State, captaining the 1986-87 squad while earning All-American honors at 134 lbs. He went 30-10-1 as a senior, winning the EWL title and finishing seventh at the 1987 NCAA Division I National Championships. Flynn finished with a 105-32-2 career record, still ranking among the all-time career leaders in victories for the Nittany Lions.

Flynn served as an assistant coach at Edinboro under Bruce Baumgartner from 1992-97. He took over as the head coach in 1998 and served in that capacity for 21 years before taking over as the head coach at West Virginia for the 2018-19 season. He would become Edinboro's all-time winningest coach, breaking the legendary Fred Caro's record for career wins. 
At Edinboro, he posted a 223-95-5 won-loss record including an 11-3 dual meet record in 2013-14 when they finished fifth in the NCAA Tournament with three All-Americans.  He was named the NWCA NCAA Division I Coach of the Year, shared InterMat Coach of the Year honors with Minnesota's J Robinson, and also was selected WIN's Dan Gable Coach of the Year. 

In 2014-15, four Fighting Scots earned All-American honors as the Fighting Scots reached the podium for the first time with a third place finish, the top finish in school history. Flynn coached 150 NCAA qualifiers, 38 All-Americans, 64 EWL champions and 97 PSAC champion. 

Flynn led the Fighting Scots to five top-10 finishes at the NCAA National Championships and fourteen top-20 finishes.  He was the EWL Coach of the Year seven times and the PSAC Coach of the Year 13 times.  Flynn coached three NCAA national champions – Josh Koscheck (174 lbs. in 2001), Gregor Gillespie (149 lbs. in 2007) and Jarrod King (165 lbs. in 2009).  Flynn was inducted into the Edinboro Athletic Hall of Fame, inducted in 2017.

King compiled a 160-17 record at Connellsville High School while capturing four section titles and three WPIAL Class AAA titles. He was a three-time PIAA Class AAA finalist and two-time state champion, winning state titles in 2003 and 2004. He competed in the Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic for the Pennsylvania All-Stars in 2004.
 
King began his collegiate wrestling career at Oklahoma University, but injuries slowed down his progress and he ultimately transferred to Edinboro after compiling a 22-11 record. In three seasons as a Fighting Scot, he compiled a 103-16 record and captured three PSAC and Eastern Wrestling League titles.
 
The highlight of his career came in 2009 when he won the NCAA Division I national championship at 165 lbs., defeating Wisconsin's Andrew Howe in the finals, 3-2. That capped a 32-5 record for the season. As a senior in 2010, he dropped a 3-1 overtime decision in the semifinals to Penn State's Dan Vallimont, but rebounded to place third, earning All-American honors for the second straight year. He would end the year with a 39-2 record.
 
King was selected the PSAC and EWL Wrestler of the Year in 2009 and 2010.  He also excelled in the classroom as a three-time member of the NWCA All-Academic Team.  He was inducted into the Southwestern Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2012.  He currently practices physical therapy at the King Physical Therapy and Fitness Center with his brother, Matt, who was also an All-American at Edinboro.
