THE GAME STORIES
  • Edinboro looks to snap a lengthy losing streak while facing an Indiana(Pa.) team that comes in with a 21-2 overall record and sits atop the PSAC West with a 16-2 record. The Crimson Hawks moved up a spot to eighth in this week's NABC Division II Top 25. They have won three straight games. Edinboro has dropped 13 straight games and is 5-17 overall and 2-16 in the PSAC West.
  • IUP has compiled an impressive record while playing in the Kovalchick Complex. The Crimson Hawks are undefeated at home this year with a 16-0 record, and over the last five years they are 74-11.
  • The Fighting Scots are looking to snap out of an extended shooting slump. They have shot less than 40 percent in five straight games and 11 of the last 13 contests. Edinboro is shooting 39.5 percent from the floor for the season.
  • Edinboro is averaging 70.1 ppg., good for 15th in the PSAC, and is 17th in the PSAC in scoring defense at 84.8 ppg. IUP is second in the conference in scoring offense (83.4 ppg.) and scoring defense (66.6 ppg.).  The Crimson Hawks are also second in the PSAC in field goal percentage (49.4 pct.) and lead the PSAC in field goal percentage defense (40.3 pct.).
  • Edinboro features three players averaging over 14 points per game. Anthony Coleman leads the way at 17.5 ppg., which is ninth in the PSAC, although the 6'3" senior guard missed five games with an injury.  He adds 5.4 rpg., second on the team, and has made 40-of-110 3-pointers. He has had seven games of 20-or-more points, including a pair of 30-point efforts. He matched his career high with 32 points at Millersville, followed by 30 points in the win at Kutztown. Coleman was a second team All-PSAC West selection in 2017-18, then missed most of the 2018-19 season with an injury, playing in just four games.
  • Coleman's backcourt mate, Jaryn Simpson, is next at 14.9 ppg. He is third on the team in rebounding (5.2 rpg.) and leads the team with 80 assists and 22 steals. He has also made a team-high 48 3-pointers in 146 attempts. Simpson is sixth in the PSAC in assists per game (4.0) and tied for seventh in 3-pointers per game (2.4). In the first meeting with Clarion, he scored a career-high 38 points, making 13-of-25 field goals, including 5-of-10 3-pointers, and 10-of-10 free throws, for his third career 30-point effort. A second team All-PSAC West selection a year ago, Simpson averaged a team-high 18.0 ppg., making 76-of-210 3-pointers. he set a school record for free throw at 90.2 percent from the line, making 110-of-122. That figure led the PSAC, as well.
  • Trey Staunch stands third in points per game at 14.7, but leads the team with 323 points. The 6'4", 285 lbs. forward is the only player to start all 22 games, as head coach Pat Cleary has used several different lineups, some due to injuries. The former all-conference performer at offensive tackle in football has scored in double figures in the last 14 games. The 6'4", 285 lb. forward has had back-to-back double-doubles and has five on the season. He is the team's leading rebounder at 7.8 rpg. while shooting 53.6 percent from the floor (120-of-224) and 88.3 percent (83-of-92) from the free throw line. Staunch ranks second in the PSAC in free throw percentage and fifth in rebounding and  field goal percentage. He muscled his way for 14.4 ppg. and a team-leading 7.4 rpg. a year ago.
  • One of the other bright spots this season has been the development of Anthony Allen. The 6'8" junior has started the last four games and in the last five games has set career highs for points and rebounds. He scored 11 points against Mercyhurst, and a week ago down a career-high 13 rebounds at Clarion. He comes in with modest averages of 2.8 ppg. and 4.2 rpg., but over the last five games he is averaging 7.0 rpg. and has also blocked eight shots.
  • Turner Kurt is averaging 6.4 ppg. despite being hampered the last couple games by an injury. The 6'8" sophomore recently had a career-best effort at Slippery Rock, scoring 22 points. He tied a career-best with five 3-pointers. He has made 22-of-77 3-pointers.
