EUknighted to Feature Hoopy Hour at The Edinboro Hotel, Doubleheader with Gannon

EDINBORO, Pa. — Round two of EUknighted 2020 is set for this coming Wednesday, February 5 as the Edinboro men's and women's basketball teams host Gannon that evening. The rivalry on the basketball court took on a new flavor earlier this year when the two teams played at Gannon on January 3. That's when the athletics departments of the two institutions teamed up to benefit the Pennsylvania Solders' & Sailors' Home.

EUknighted 2020 is a friendly way for fans of both teams to enjoy the rivalry, while raising funds for the Soldiers and Sailors' Home. The games are preceded by a "Hoopy" Hour. All active duty military, reservists and veterans will receive free entry to the basketball games, and donations made at the Hoopy Hours and the basketball games will directly benefit the Pennsylvania Soldiers' & Sailors' Home.
EUknighted t-shirts will also be on sale, with proceeds going to Soldiers' & Sailors' home. Anyone purchasing an EUknighted t-shirt that night either at the Hoopy Hour or at McComb Fieldhouse will receive free admission to the game.

The first Hoopy Hour took place at Molly Brannigan's in downtown Erie near the Gannon campus. Now it's Edinboro's turn to host the Hoopy Hour. Fans will be able to enjoy a wide variety of food and beverages at The Edinboro Hotel, 100 Meadville Street, from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday. The basketball games that evening at McComb Fieldhouse tip off at 5:30 p.m. for the women's game and 7:30 p.m. for the men's contest.

The night's festivities will also include members of the Edinboro ROTC rappelling down from the rafters to deliver the game ball. Members of the Edinboro and Gannon ROTC departments will sit with the guests from the Soldiers' and Sailors' Home.

About the Pennsylvania Solders' & Sailors' Home: The Pennsylvania Soldiers' & Sailors' Home in Erie was dedicated and opened on February 22, 1886, although the actual construction began nearly two decades earlier. Work began in 1867 when it was conceived as a Marine hospital to be used by the federal government as part of its system of homes for disabled volunteer soldiers.  The purpose of the Pa. Soldiers' & Sailors' Home is to provide a home for indigent and disabled ex-soldiers from Pennsylvania.  The main building has 100 beds, divided into personal care and domiciliary care, while the annex was dedicated in June 1980, with 75 beds available to provide quality nursing care. Available to all residents are medical, clinical and nursing services; drug and nutritional therapy; rehabilitative service such as physical therapy, occupational therapy and recreational therapy; dental services; social services; laundry; transportation; housekeeping; maintenance; security; fiscal management; and other related services.
