More softball Senior Day images

WINTER HAVEN, Fl. -- On Saturday morning the Edinboro and Kutztown softball teams took to the field for a doubleheader. It would be the last games played by these two teams for the 2020 season as the coronavirus outbreak forced the cancellation of the rest of the season.

A good friend of the Edinboro athletic program, Mike Gallagher, now resides in Florida and took the time to drive almost two hours to take pictures and videotape Edinboro's Senior Day. We thank Mike, who ignored any risks to his own health to capture what transpired. We can not say enough about Mike, who faces his own serious health issues that make him even further at risk.

We also thank the Kutztown softball team for stepping in today to help the Fighting Scots celebrate Senior Day. The Golden Bears held their own Senior Day on Friday, but helped out the Fighting Scots after Edinboro's two original opponents were unable to compete. The cover photo is most poignant -- it shows the Kutztown team standing in the outfield cheering on Lauren Gierlak, the daughter of head coach Dan Gierlak, as she circles the bases one last time. It's a tradition on Senior Day. In the background -- our nation's flag!

On this day, there were no losers, or opponents. There were only winners and teammates as these two teams took the field with respect for each other and in the face of the coronavirus. While COVID-19 has brought to an end to the spring sports seasons, these ladies bonded together to make the best of a bad situation. Thanks to both teams, best wishes to their seniors, and thank you again to Mike Gallagher for his devotion to sports and Edinboro University!
