Staunch Named PSAC West Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Edinboro's Trey Staunch (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) has been named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week for the final week of the regular season. Edinboro split a pair of games this past week, suffering a 95-60 loss to Slippery Rock before handing Seton Hill an 85-80 defeat.

Staunch's selection marks a fitting end to a career that began with him joining the football team in 2015, starting for four years, and then becoming a two-sport athlete in 2017 when he joined the basketball team.

In two games this week, the 6'4", 285 lb. forward averaged 24.0 points and 12.0 rpg. while making 19-of-29 field goals and 10-of-11 free throws.

The week began with Staunch battling Slippery Rock's Micah Till in the post. He would finish with 23 points and four rebounds, making 8-of-12 field goals and 7-of-7 free throws.

Along with Anthony Coleman, who scored a career-high 39 points, Staunch led Edinboro to the season-ending win at Seton Hill that snapped a school-record 16-game losing streak. He powered his way to 25 points along with pulling down 20 rebounds. The 20 rebounds eclipsed his career high of 17 vs. Pitt-Johnstown in January and were the most since Bryan Theriot hauled down 20 vs. Penn State Beaver during the 2012-13 campaign.

He made 11-of-17 field goals and was 3-of-4 at the line while producing his 18th straight game in double figures, and the double-double was his seventh of the season and fourth in the last six games.

Staunch would play basketball for three seasons, and wraps up his career just shy of the 1,000-500 club. In 77 games, he totaled 982 points and 492 rebounds. He scored a team-high 413 points this season, averaging 15.9 ppg. along with a team-high 8.2 rpg.
