Edinboro, Pa. - After a twelve-day break from action, the Edinboro men's basketball team will hit the floor three times in the next four days. The Fighting Scots will host three PSAC East teams apart of the crossover games. On Thursday night Edinboro will host Bloomsburg at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, the Scots will host East Stroudsburg followed by Kutztown both with a 3 p.m. tip.
Six games in
Edinboro has now competed in four non-conference games and two PSAC East games, leading them to their current (3-3) overall record. In Edinboro's previous two games they traveled to Lock Haven and Mansfield to open the PSAC crossover games. The Fighting Scots found themselves in back-to-back overtime games all within 24 hours. They fell to Lock Haven 83-80 in overtime the first night. Saturday night Edinboro would bounce back with a tough win at Mansfield 101-97 in double overtime.
Last time on the floor
It has been twelve days since Edinboro visited Mansfield and snatched a 101-97 double overtime victory from the Mountaineers. This game was close for two half's and two overtime periods as there were 14 ties and 15 lead changes in all.
Outstanding free throw shooting at the end would help give an extra boost to get past Mansfield. Free throws by Jaryn Simpson and Cyrie Coates late in the second overtime would seal it for Edinboro after a last second three-point attempt by Mansfield fell short. In the second overtime, Edinboro shot 8-9 from the line compared to the Mountaineer's 4-6.
Dominique Keyes finished with another double-double by posting 31 points, 14 rebounds, and four blocks.
Simpson ended with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. Simpson shot 12-13 from the line.
Coates followed them with 22 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks. While Robertson finished with 16 points.
Bloomsburg Scouting Report
Bloomsburg is a member of the PSAC East conference and will be Edinboro's third opponent in the PSAC crossover series. The Huskies come into the competition with an overall record of (1-5). For Bloomsburg, four of their five losses have been by less than 10 points.
In Bloomsburg's previous match up, they were defeated by Slippery Rock 83-79. It was a tough game for the Huskies as they owned the lead until the final four minutes of the game. A pull-up jumper by Slippery Rock's Amante Britt gave the Rock a 81-79 lead with three seconds to play, as they would then seal it with free throws.
Louie Wild finished with a team-high 19 points and connected on four three-pointers.
Justin Rodriguez followed him with five three pointers on 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists.
East Stroudsburg Scouting Report
East Stroudsburg is a member of the PSAC East conference and will be Edinboro's fourth opponent in the PSAC crossover series. The Warriors come into the competition with an overall record of (4-3). East Stroudsburg didn't start the season off great after losing their first three games. Since then, the Warriors have won four straight.
In East Stroudsburg's last game, they defeated Georgian Court convincingly with a 94-55 final. The Warriors began the first half of the game on a 23-0 run and finished the same half on an 18-0 run. East Stroudsburg led 48-14 at the half. The Warriors would outscore their opponent 62-18 in the paint.
Carlos Pepin led the way with a game-high 22 points, along with 10 rebounds as he didn't miss from the field.
Justin Paz followed him with 13 points and four assists.
Kutztown Scouting Report
Kutztown is a member of the PSAC East conference and will be Edinboro's fifth and final opponent in the PSAC crossover series. The Bears come into the competition with an overall record of (4-4). Kutztown as only one loss on the season that has come by more than 10 points (#7 IUP). The Bears have won their last two games against Seton Hill and Bowie State.
In Kutztown's last game, they defeated Bowie State 81-78 in a close one. In the final minutes Wesley Butler took over for the Bears and closed the game. Butler would score 10 of his team's final 12 points of the game. He helped Kutztown extend its lead to five points with less than a minute left, after a 7-0 run.
Butler led the way for the Bears as he finished with a game-high 25 points, along with six rebounds and four assists.
He was followed by Channick Nkoma who finished with a double-double consisting of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
