Erie, Pa- The Edinboro Fighting Scots tennis programs returned to action for the first time in eleven months this weekend and took on a familiar opponent in Walsh University. Action took place at the Westwood Racquet Club at 6:30 p.m. Friday night.

The men's team fell in a hard fought contest, 4-3, but showed promise for a strong campaign. The Fighting Scots picked up three victories in singles action and won one showdown in doubles. 

At number three singles, Thibault Dorval picked up a victory over Dawson Drummond of Walsh 6-4, 7-6 in his first collegiate match. Kaio Sacchi picked up where he left off last school year by defeating A. Medina Pulgmartl 6-1, 6-1. In the number five spot, first year Gustavo Martins won his first collegiate match in three sets in come from behind fashion, 1-6, 6-1, 6-3.

Moving over to doubles, the tandem of Kai Chin Chen and Ruben Acuna won their first doubles match together in 2021 by a 7-5 score over the pairing of Pedro Campos and Joao Campos.

The women's program fell to Walsh by a final score of 6-1. In her first collegiate match, first year Kaede Tada of Kashiwa, Japan defeated Katharina Razum in straight sets at number one singles, 6-1, 6-2.

Edinboro Tennis Head Coach Kody Duncan offered his thoughts on the effort his teams showed and how the teams can improve over the season. "For only having two weeks of practice before our first match and with being such a young team, I think we played very well given the situation we were in. No one gave up which was great to see. I think we can improve just by continuing to practice more and getting match play experience. The match play experience will help a lot for the newcomers."
