BUFFALO, N.Y. – The day began with the Fighting Scots hard-charging the host Bulls to win the dual 21-15, improving to 2-0 on the season. In the second dual of the day against the Central Michigan Chippewas, Tyler Vath and Jacob Oliver sparked the Scots with wins, despite Edinboro dropping the team final.
Oliver came into the weekend ranked 14 in the nation and finished the day a perfect 2-0, defeating Marcus Petite of Buffalo and Jake Lowell of CMU. Tyler Vath went 2-0 as well, downing Ben Freeman (Buffalo) and Corbyn Munson (CMU). Redshirt junior Lucas Rodriguez, freshman Ethan Ducca and redshirt sophomore Cody Mulligan all notched wins over the Bulls.
Extra matches were held at the conclusion of the duals, with Fighting Scots winning four exhibitions.
Freshman Logan Jaquay added a win by fall in extras, freshman Gabe Willochell won by major decision and redshirt junior P.J. Gohn secured a fall in the first period. Freshman Max Millin capped the night off with a 5-4 decision.
The Fighting Scots improved to 2-1 overall and 2-1 in Mid-American Conference play.

We definitely learned where we need to be after wrestling a tough team like Central Michigan. This was a great eye opener towards progression heading into the MAC Championships!"

EDINBORO FIGHTING SCOTS AT BUFFALO BULLS
At 125 – Lucas Rodriguez (R-Jr) scored the first point of the day in his match against previously undefeated Tristian Daugherty (Fr). Then he came back to win 3-2 after trailing by only a point in the second period. Edinboro led 3-0.
At 133 – Tye Varndell (So) followed up the win and quickly established a 2-0 lead over Tommy Maddox (R-Fr) that he would not relinquish. After leading 9-0 through two periods, Varndell went on to win by tech fall, 18-2. The Fighting Scots assumed an 8-0 team lead.
At 141 – Ryan Burgos (Fr) used the second period to re-take the lead against Derek Spann (R-Sr) but ultimately fell 12-6.
At 149 – Tyler Vath (Gr) fell behind Ben Freeman (R-Jr) in the first, but still led the period 3-2. Vath dominated the second period to gain momentum and a 6-2 advantage. He took the result 11-5 and Edinboro went up 11-3.
At 157 – Peter Pappas (R-Jr) never said quit against Michael Petite (R-So) despite falling behind for the first and second periods. The energy on the Edinboro bench was palpable as the high-tempo third unfolded and Pappas wrestled back from trailing seven to fall just 10-8. Buffalo cut Edinboro's lead to 11-6, but the Fighting Scots looked ready to finish strong.
At 165 – Luke Saniato (Fr) lost by fall to Noah Grover (R-Jr) after hanging tough for 4:25. The Fighting Scots fell behind 12-11, but they would not trail long.
At 174 – #14 Jacob Oliver (R-Jr) controlled his match against Marcus Petite (Fr) from the start. He took a 10-1 lead with 57 seconds in the match and dominated the finish to win 12-1. Edinboro re-took the team lead 15-12.
At 184 – Ethan Ducca (Fr), who has caught fire of late, took a 2-0 lead over Guiseppe Hoose (R-So) as the match commenced and never looked back. Beginning the third with a 7-2 lead, Ducca closed out strong to win and push the team lead to 18-12.
At 197 – Cody Mulligan (R-So) stood strong against Sam Mitchell (R-Fr) well into the third period with a 2-0 advantage. At 1:01 after a visit with athletic trainer Danielle Lodanosky, Mulligan closed out the convincing 2-0 victory and put Edinboro ahead 21-12.
At 285 – Jon Spaulding (Sr) established the tone against Sam Schuyler (R-Jr) in the first period of the heavyweight bout despite the period ending scoreless. Spaulding began the second in top position and surrendered three points in the frame. Despite the 3-1 loss, the Fighting Scots took the final 21-15.

At 125 – Logan Jaquay (Fr) continued Edinboro's winning ways in extras, he fell behind early but battled back to secure the fall over Jordan Reyes (So) at 1:52.
At 133 – Richie Markulics (So) defeated by Caleb Svingala (Fr) by decision, 5-0.
At 141 – Gabe Willochell (Fr) defeated Matt Ryan (Fr) by major decision, 9-1.
At 157 – P.J. Gohn (R-Jr) wasted little time locking down the fall over Hunter Shaut (So) at 1:15 in the first.
At 285 – Max Millin (Fr) tallied a point against Toby Cahill (R-Jr) in the first and then a quick escape at the start of the second to tie the match at two. He added two more as time ran out on the second but fell 5-4.

At 125 – Lucas Rodriguez trailed in the second but managed to cut the lead to 6-3 against #4 Drew Hildebrandt (R-Sr). With about twenty seconds left, he began to push the tempo. Rodriguez went on to fall by major decision 12-4. 4-0 CMU
At 133 – Tye Varndell fell behind 4-1 in the first against Andrew Marten (R-Jr), who added five more in the second. Varndell fell by tech fall, 16-1. 9-0 CMU
At 141 – # 12 Dresdon Simon (R-Sr) exploded for a 16-1 victory over Ryan Burgos just 1:50 into the first. 14-0 CMU
At 149 – Tyler Vath controlled through a period, taking a 3-2 lead over Corbyn Munson (R-So). He added three more in the second to assume the 6-2 lead. Munson got a point back, but Vath added a two-point takedown with around 40 seconds remaining and won 8-4. 14-3 CMU
At 157 – Peter Pappas hand-battled with Johnny Lovett (R-Fr) for the first 15 seconds of the first before a brief stoppage. The matched remained scoreless through the frame. With 1:30 left in the second, Pappas scored the first point via escape. At the start of the third, Lovett tied the match at one. Lovett tacked on six via near falls around the 50-second mark. Pappas answered with two but fell 7-3. 17-3 CMU
At 165 – P.J. Gohn got the start against Alex Cramer (So), who led 2-0 after one period. Gohn added two points in the third but Cramer took the final by major decision, 10-2. CMU 21-3
At 174 – #14 Jacob Oliver took a 2-1 lead early in the first over Jake Lowell (R-Jr). Oliver added three more in the second, but Oliver led 5-3. Closing in on his second victory of the afternoon, the match was tied 5-5 after a review of the score with 1:03 in the third. Oliver capitalized on the breather, took a one-point lead, and held on to win 6-5. CMU 21-6
At 184 – Ethan Ducca and Ben Cushman (R-So) exchanged answers in the first minute of the match as Cushman took a 3-2 lead through a period. Ducca allowed an escape to open the first but took advantage of neutral position with a two-point takedown at the 1:08 mark in the second. Ducca fell 10-4. 24-6 CMU
At 197 – Cody Mulligan tallied a point against # 22 Landon Pelham (R-Sr) at the midway point of the second to make it 2-1. From bottom position in the third, Mulligan quickly tied the match at three. Pelham added a point midway through the period and Mulligan fell by decision, 4-3. 27-6 CMU
At 285 – Jon Spaulding fell behind #4 Matt Stencel (R-Sr) 4-0 in the first period. He got two back in the third but fell by decision, 8-2. CMU wins 30-6.

At 125 – Logan Jaquay tallied two escapes in the first but trailed Vince Perez 8-2 after a period. After two, Jaquay trailed 11-5 but he added a point with about a minute remaining. He fell by decision 14-6.
At 133 – Richie Markulics fell by major decision to Brock Bergelin (R-Jr), 12-0.
At 165 – Luke Saniato battled back in the second period to cut the lead to 5-2 until Tracy Hubbard (R-So) added four in the closing seconds of the period. Saniato fell by major decision, 12-2.
At 285 – Max Millin made it a 3-2 defecit against Cade Dallwitz (R-Fr) with 34 seconds left in the first period. Trailing 4-2 to begin the third, Millin scored a point to close to gap, then a takedown to take the 5-4 lead. He held on to win by decision, 5-4.

The NCAA Championships are set for March 18-20 in St. Louis, Mo.
