EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro women's tennis team will hit the road on Tuesday afternoon to face fellow PSAC school California in a conference showdown. The match is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m. The Fighting Scots were able to pick up their first team win of the season last Friday in a win over the Penn State Behrend Lions.
Sophomore Torye Calleja comes into action a winner of two straight matches as she picked up wins over both Seton Hill and Penn State Behrend as the number two singles player. First-year Kaede Tada is on a two-game win streak of her own and has started her first collegiate season 4-2 in singles action.
First-years Marina Zottele, Ana Nadai, Emily Cevera, and Emily Moczulski were all able to pick up their first collegiate wins in singles in the teams sweep of Behrend last Friday. In doubles, the duo of Lauren Chiacchia and Emily Cevera have won two straight matches, while the duos of Torye Calleja and Kaeda Tada and Ana Nadai and Marina Zottele will look to both pick up their second straight wins in doubles.
As for CalU, they have begun their season with an 0-3 mark and an 0-1 record in the PSAC. The Fighting Scots will look to make it four straight wins over California as they have won the last three matches of the series.
Edinboro Head Coach Kody Duncan shared his thoughts on the upcoming matchup with the Vulcans. "I expect us to come out and compete hard on Tuesday. We gained some confidence over the last couple of weeks which I expect will serve us well as we continue this season."
