Box Score (New/Sortable Format) EDINBORO, PA - The Fighting Scots came unstuck against Slippery Rock in a 4-1 loss on the road. Two late goals came in quick succession for SRU as Edinboro pushed for the equalizer.
Edinboro, normally the team on the front foot from the start, instead found themselves 1-0 down just three minutes into the game. The Rock's Julia Mascaro put the home team ahead, assisted by Rachel Edge.
The Fighting Scots were able to battle back and were awarded a penalty on the 26-minute mark. Haydn Paxton saw her initial effort saved but was able to secure the rebound to score her first goal of the season.
The first-half found itself in a stalemate but with a minute remaining SRU broke through into the penalty area. Anna Voelker found herself in a one on one situation and unfortunately brought down the Slippery Rock attacker. The resulting penalty was scored by Georgia Nagucki to give Slippery Rock a 2-1 advantage at the break.
Edinboro looked to overturn the deficit in a second half that saw a hard battle in the midfield. Neither team was able to really hold possession and clear cut chances were hard to come by. As Edinboro pushed for the leveller they were caught by a quick bit of play in the 79th minute, this saw Sydney Patrick score from just outside the 18-yard box into the bottom corner, SRU 3-1 with 11 minutes remaining.
Three minutes later the game was secured by Slippery Rock's Ashley Rea who fired a shot from out wide which looped into the goal. Edinboro fought for the shirt, still pushing to find a goal right up till the last whistle. Not to be Edinboro's day against a Slippery Rock side that have only lost one game all season.
The Fighting Scots return to PSAC action Saturday, October 2, 1 p.m. Kickoff away at Pitt-Johnstown, PA.
