Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro wrestling team will host their annual wrestle offs Thursday at 6:30 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
The Scots will look to show some depth in several weight classes and get a look at some newcomers to the lineup.
At 125, the Scots have two returners that saw significant time last season in
Logan Jaquay and
Chris Merlo as well as new faces in transfer
Aiden Lewis and freshman
Eamonn Jimenez.
Jaquay posted a 9-6 record last season after redshirting in 2020-21. Merlo wrestled in 27 times last season with a 4-23 overall record.
Lewis was 15-10 last season at Bucknell. He competed at six tournaments including a fourth-place finish at the Mat-Town Open. Jimenez enters his first collegiate season after winning 157 matches at Ellison High School in Texas.
Cameron Soda returns as the incumbent starter at 133 from 2021-22. He finished the season with a 14-23 overall record. Soda will face off against freshman
Nicholas Schaukowitsch who finished his high school career 72-28 overall at Butler Area.
At 141, NCAA qualifier
Gabe Willochell returns for the Scots. Willochell finished the season 22-10 overall scoring bonus points in 13 of his 22 victories. A pair of second year wrestlers,
Amonn Ohl and
Zach Soda will compete for a shot at Willochell.
Returning starter at 149,
Ryan Burgos, finished last season 12-14. Jake Pail wrestled 16 matches for the Scots going 5-11 overall while newcomer
Gannon Jaquay will look to be in the mix as well.
At 157, transfer
Luke Kemerer who went 7-9 at Pitt last season, will await the winner of the match between
Sully Allen who was 11-12 wrestling at 149 a year ago and freshman
Andrew Pokalasky who finished his high school career at Nashaminy with a record of 61-29.
Alex Garee makes the bump to 165 after going 2-6 last season as a freshman at 157. He will take on Fresman
Max Kirby who posted a career record of 134-23 and was the Ohio DII State Runner-Up.
The Scots return
Joey Arnold at 174. As a freshman Arnold went 4-21 overall. Another Pitt transfer,
Jared McGill will be Arnold's opponent Thursday. McGill was 4-6 at Pitt in 2021 and didn't wrestle last season, but was in the room for the Fighting Scots.
There will not be matches at 184 or 197. Edinboro returns NWCA Scholar All-American
Ethan Ducca at 184. Ducca was 14-6 last season.
At 197,
Cody Mulligan is the returning starter after a 21-10 record last season.
Jack Kilner is also in the 197 mix after finishing 14-14 last year.
Edinboro also has depth at 285 as two-time national qualifier Jon Spaulding looks to make his return to the lineup. He is joined in the competition by last year's starter
Max Millin as well as promising freshman
Nick Lodato and
Kade Sottolano.
The Scots open competition on Sunday Nov. 6 with a trip to the Clarion Open.
