Boone, N.C. – The Edinboro wrestling team placed four wrestlers at the App State Invitational/Open on Saturday.
Cameron Soda and
Luke Kemerer each earned fourth place finishes while
Jared McGill and
Nick Lodato each earned sixth.
At 133, Soda dropped his opening match 4-1 to Appalachian State's Sean Carter. He worked his way back opening the consolation round with a fall over Marlon Yarbough of Virginia just before the end of the first period.
In the consolation semifinals, Soda squared off with Jackson Disario a two-time national qualifier from Stanford. Soda scored first with a takedown, but Disario scored an escape and a takedown to hold a 3-2 lead after one. Disario extended the lead to 4-2 with an escape in the second. Soda rallied in the third scoring a late reversal and two near fall points to earn a 6-4 decision. In the third-place bout, Soda dropped a 10-7 decision to Garrett Grice of Virginia.
Kemerer at 157 also dropped his opening match, but rallied in the consolation bracket. In his opening consolation bout, Kemerer topped Tyler Brignola of Gardner-Webb 8-3.
Kemerer avenged his opening loss to No. 12 Jake Keating of Virgina scoring a fall in 4:30 after dominating the second period of the bout. Kemerer dropped an 8-0 major in the third-place match.
McGill opened the 174-pound bracket with a 4-1 win over nationally ranked Sal Perrine of Ohio. McGill fell in the semifinals and took the medical forfeit out of the semis finishing sixth.
At 285, Lodato dropped his opener but won his first semifinal match 6-2 over Jacob Cover of Kent State. He fell 10-4 in the consolation semifinals and the fifth-place match.
"We need to get healthy and more mature on the mat," said head coach
Matt Hill. "I'm looking forward to when we get our complete lineup together in the coming weeks."
The Scots are back in action next Sunday when they travel to Morgantown, W.Va. for the WVU Duals.
