Edinboro, Pa. - The Edinboro men's basketball team will continue with conference play by traveling to PSAC West opponent Gannon University on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. tip off.
Sixteen games in
Edinboro comes into Wednesday's matchup with a (5-11) overall record and (3-8) in PSAC play. As of recently, the Fighting Scots have dropped their last seven games as they look to get back into the winning column.
Edinboro's offense has shot around 42% from the field and connected on 28% off their three pointers while putting up 77.7 points per contest. Edinboro's offensive has been consistently effective in the paint, the Fighting Scots have outscored their opponents in the paint eleven times this season.
On defense the Scots continue to control the paint with blocks and rebounds. Edinboro is first in the PSAC with 43.3 team rebounds per game. The Fighting Scots are also the top ranked team in the conference for blocks per game at 4.94.
Statistical Leaders
Deontae Robertson leads Edinboro in scoring at 19.6 points per game which ranks third in the entire PSAC. Robertson also contributes 7.3 rebounds per game along with 1.8 steals which ranks nineth in the conference.
Jaryn Simpson averages 14.9 points per game and is second in the conference for free-throw percentage at 84.9 percent.
Cyrie Coates is averaging 12.8 points per game along with 6.5 rebounds per game.
Last time out
On Monday night Edinboro fell to Slippery Rock with a final of 87-84 at home. Robertson had an opportunity to send it to overtime with a look from three that rolled off the rim at the buzzer. Late in the second half Edinboro found themselves down 15 points, until a three-pointer from Cyrie Coates jumpstarted a 12-0 run for the Fighting Scots to get them within distance.
Coates finished with a season-high 29 points and 11 rebounds.
Robertson followed him with 18 points, five rebounds and four steals.
Simpson contributed 16 points and five assists.
Gannon Scouting Report
Gannon is a member of the PSAC West conference and currently holds a (9-7) overall record and (6-6) in conference play. The Golden Knights are currently dealing with a cold streak as they have lost their last four of their last five games.
Gannon's defense has been strong so far this season, as they are holding their opponents to only 65.4 points per game. The Golden Knights rank fifth in the PSAC with 8.13 steals per game.
Gannon is led by Chris Clancy who averages a team-high 13.5 points per game and 4.2 rebounds per game.
Braden Olsen puts up 13.4 points per game along with 4.7 rebounds per game.
