Edinboro, Pa. - The Edinboro men's basketball will battle PSAC West opponent California University of Pennsylvania on Saturday at the Convocation Center in California, Pa with a 3 p.m. tip.
Twenty Games In
Edinboro comes into Saturday's matchup with a (7-13) overall record and (5-10) in PSAC play. As of recently, the Fighting Scots have won their last two games. In their two wins over Clarion, Edinboro now owns the seventh seed in the PSAC West standings. The Scots will look for a late season push in hopes of clinching a spot in the PSAC tournament.
On defense Edinboro averages one more block than their opponents at 4.7 a game. The Fighting Scots also do an exceptional job on the glass as they are second in the PSAC with 41.5 team rebounds per game.
Edinboro's offense averages 77.0 points per game, along with 43% shooting from the field and a 28% clip from beyond the arc. The Fighting Scots movement on offense has led them to 12.8 assists per game so far this season.
Statistical Leaders
Deontae Robertson leads Edinboro in scoring at 19.8 points per game which ranks fifth in the entire PSAC. Robertson also contributes 7.4 rebounds per game along with 1.8 steals which ranks eighth in the conference.
Jaryn Simpson averages 13.7 points per game along with 3.9 assists, and is third in the conference for free-throw percentage at 84.1 percent.
Cyrie Coates averages 13.4 points per game along with 5.6 rebounds per game.
Last time out
On Wednesday night Edinboro bested Clarion for the second straight game 71-61. In a game that had sixteen lead changes, Edinboro would hold the final lead after a late 10-0 run.
The Fighting Scots shot an efficient 56% from the field in the first half and connected on three triples from beyond the arc.
At the 5:37 mark late in the second half it was all even at 59-59. Suddenly Edinboro began to slam the door on Clarion with a 10-0 run. The run was well rounded four different Fighting Scots would score during that time, including four points from Robertson.
Robertson finished with a game-high 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Coates posted 16 points, while shooting 75% from the field.
Terrence Moore contributed 11 points and seven rebounds.
CAL U Scouting Report
Cal U comes into the competition with an overall record of (15-6) and (10-5) in the PSAC. The Vulcans currently sit in the fourth spot of the PSAC West as they are winners of seven of their last nine games.
On offense, Cal U averages 83.4 points per contest while shooting 48% from the field and 33% from three-point range.
Cal U has four players that average double figures in scoring. Philip Alston leads the entire PSAC with 21.8 points per game and 10.6 rebounds. Brent Pegram averages 17.1 points per game along with 5.5 rebounds per game.
Previous Matchup This Season
In the last matchup between the Vulcans and the Fighting Scots earlier this season, Cal U defeated Edinboro 89-84 at McComb Fieldhouse. Alston led Cal U with 33 points, 18 rebounds and four blocks. For Edinboro, Robertson finished with 23 points and he was followed by Simpson with 20 points of his own.
