Men’s Basketball Travels to Slippery Rock for PSAC West Showdown

Edinboro, Pa. - The Edinboro men's basketball team will travel to Slippery Rock, Pa on Wednesday night for a battle with Slippery Rock University. The game will tip off at 7:30 p.m. at Morrow Field House. 

Twenty-Four Games In 

Edinboro comes into the week with an (8-16) overall record and (6-13) in PSAC play. As of recently the Fighting Scots have won three out of their last six games with wins over Clarion and Gannon. Edinboro currently sits upon the seventh seed in the PSAC West standings. The Scots were officially knocked out of postseason contention after their loss to Mercyhurst on Saturday. 

Edinboro's offense averages 75.6 points per game, along with 43% shooting from the field and a 29% clip from beyond the arc. The Fighting Scots movement on offense has led them to 12.5 assists per game so far this season. 

The Fighting Scots are tough on the glass, as they are fourth in the PSAC with 40.0 team rebounds per game. On defense Edinboro averages 1.1 more blocks than their opponents at 4.8 a game. 

Statistical Leaders 

Deontae Robertson leads Edinboro in scoring at 19.0 points per game which ranks fifth in the entire PSAC. Robertson also contributes 7.3 rebounds per game along with 1.7 steals which ranks eleventh in the conference. 

Cyrie Coates averages 14.3 points per game along with 5.6 rebounds per game. 

Dominique Keyes averages 11.0 points per game along with 8.7 rebounds while snatching 1.4 blocks per game. 

Last time out 

On Saturday night Edinboro fell to nationally ranked Mercyhurst, 63-91. 

Edinboro jumped out to another early lead with threes from Kameron King and Deontae Robertson. Two minutes into the game, free throws from Cyrie Coates would put the Fighting Scots ahead 9-5.  

Mercyhurst went on a run of their own including 12 straight points, which quickly extended their lead to eight points. 

In the second half, at the 6:46 mark the Lakers continued to build their lead with an 8-0 run. The run consisted of back-to-back three-pointers and a dunk to extend the lead to 26 points.  

Terrence Moore finished with a team-high 14 points and seven rebounds. 

Jaryn Simpson posted 12 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. 

Coates also put in 12 points, as well as five rebounds. 

Slippery Rock Scouting Report 

Slippery Rock comes into the competition with an overall record of (16-10) and (12-8) in conference play. The Rock currently sits in the fifth spot of the PSAC West standings, behind IUP, Mercyhurst, UPJ, and Cal U. Recently, Slippery Rock has won five straight. 

 On offense, Slippery Rock averages 80.5 points per contest while shooting 45% from the field and 32% from three-point range. 

Slippery Rock has four players that average double figures in scoring. Frankie Huges leads them with 16.3 points per game and has connected on 78 three-pointers. Tyler Frederick averages 14.6 points per game along with 9.4 rebounds per game. 

Last Matchup with the Rock 

Back on January 31st Slippery Rock defeated Edinboro 87-84 at McComb Fieldhouse. The Rock was led by Dylan Ahearn who finished with 21 points and five three-pointers. For Edinboro, Coates finished with 29 points and 11 rebounds.
