Edinboro, Pa – The Edinboro women's tennis team will be on the road this week when they compete in two matches with East Coast Conference (ECC) schools. On Thursday the Scots match up against Saint Thomas Aquinas College at 3 p.m. and on Friday against Queens College at 11 a.m.
Last Time Out
Back on February 25th, the Fighting Scots cruised past Daemen College with a final of 5-2. Two close matches in singles play were clutched by Luciana Ponce and Anisha Thada. Ponce was victorious over Kitsa Scime 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 and Thada finished off Yinett Del Leon 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. If it wasn't for Ponce's and Thada's victories, Daemen would've ultimately won the match.
In the other singles matches, Vidisha Pallamreddy defeated Frida Rubio 6-1, 6-2. Rafaella Negrao De Almeida rolled past Christina Stasiuk 6-1, 6-1. Marina Zottele finished off Mackenzie Schayes 6-3, 6-2. Finally, Ana Nadai swept Hannah Pagano 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play the duo of Nadai and Salomao earned the lone win for Edinboro 6-1, over Schayes and Pagano.
With the win, the Scots improved to (5-1) overall on season and have won two of their last three matches.
Statistical Leaders
With six matches under their belt Edinboro currently has seven players with a winning record in Singles play.
Vidisha Pallamreddy, Ana Nadai, and Anisha Thada each have a (5-1) Singles record.
Marina Zottele follows them up with a (4-2) record and has won three straight.
Kaitlin Toth remains perfect with her (3-0) Singles record.
In Doubles play the duo of Pallamreddy and Thada has been the best, as they hold a perfect (3-0) record when they team up together.
St. Thomas Aquinas Scouting Report
St. Thomas Aquinas is a member of the ECC conference out of the Atlantic Region. St. Thomas currently holds a (9-2) overall record and have won nine of their last ten matches. The Spartans' match with Edinboro will be their first competition of the spring. In the fall, Laura Marie and Valentina Brienza both held perfect records at (10-0) in Singles play.
Queens Scouting Report
Queens is also a member of the ECC conference out of the Atlantic Region. Queens currently holds a (5-3) overall record and hasn't competed since the fall. In their last match, the Knights fell in the final to the University of The District of Columbia in the ECC Women's Tennis Championships. Maja Makal leads the team in Singles play with a (5-2) record.
