Edinboro, Pa – The Edinboro Women's tennis team will host PSAC opponent Mercyhurst University on Friday for a 3 p.m. start. Coming into the weekend, the Fighting Scots hold the fourth spot in the PSAC West rankings with a (2-2) record and (10-7) overall.
Statistical Leaders
With seventeen matches completed so far and only four left, Edinboro currently has four players with winning records in singles play that are all underclassmen.
Vidisha Pallamreddy holds a team best (11-6) singles record and has won six of her last nine matches. Pallamreddy was named PSAC West Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week back in March.
Marina Zottele follows her with a (9-8) record and has five of her last nine matches.
Luciana Ponce has gained momentum lately, winning five of her last seven matches, sustaining an (8-6) singles record.
In Doubles the duo Ponce and Rafaella Negrao De Almeida own the best record for Edinboro. The two are (4-3) when they team up this season.
Last Time Out
On Wednesday, the Fighting Scots earned another PSAC West conference win as they blew past Cal U 7-0. Edinboro gained momentum early by sweeping in doubles play and earning the doubles point. The duo of Luciana Ponce and Rafaella Negrao De Almeida got things going with a 6-1 victory over Carmen Duran and Maria Del Mar Ojeda. Marina Zottele and Maria Clara shut down Fallon Winseck and Teodora Iacob 6-2. Vidisha Pallamreddy and Sandra Riecken finished the sweep with the 6-1 victory over Olivia Anastos and Kylie Feltenberger.
In singles Edinboro used their momentum to clinch the match win by sweeping all six singles matches. Pallamreddy picked up her eleventh win of the season as she put away Duran 6-0, 6-1. Ponce won a close one over Ojeda 7-6 (2), 6-4. De Almeida defeated Winseck 6-4, 6-2 which boosted her singles record to (7-7) on the season.
Following her, Zottele would record a commanding win as she took down Feltenberger 6-1, 6-0. Ana Nadai gained her seventh win of the season when she put away Anastos 6-0, 6-4. Riecken capped off the win with her 6-3, 6-0 win over Iacob
Mercyhurst Scouting Report
Mercyhurst is a member of the PSAC conference out of the Atlantic Region. The Lakers currently hold a (7-11) overall record and is (2-2) in conference play, placing them in third place behind IUP and Slippery Rock. In their recent match, Mercyhurst was defeated by Slippery Rock, 1-6.
