Box Score (New/Sortable Format) Erie, Pa. -- The Edinboro women's tennis dropped a tough one on Friday afternoon as they were shut out by PSAC West opponent Mercyhurst 0-7. With the loss, Edinboro falls to (10-8) overall and (2-3) in the PSAC.
The Lakers grabbed an early lead by gaining the advantage in doubles play. The Fighting Scots put forth a hard-fought effort but were swept in the three doubles matches. Vidisha Pallamreddy and Sandra Riecken fell in a close match to Valentine Budin and Sara Bertolez Puente 4-6. Luciana Ponce and Rafaella Negrao De Almeida also were defeated in a tight one as they fell to Kayla Dean and Rosin Murphy 4-6.
In singles the pattern would continue in the favor of Mercyhurst. The Lakers would go on to sweep all six of the matches in singles. Ponce forced a third set against Naomi Jahr but was defeated by Naomi Jahr 6-4, 4-6, 5-10. Pallamreddy was also relentless in her efforts against Dean but fell 3-6, 2-6.
Edinboro will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Ashland University at 2 p.m.
