Edinboro, Pa – The Edinboro Women's tennis team will finish off regular season play this weekend with two matches. On Saturday, Edinboro will travel to Seton Hill for a 1 p.m. match start. On Sunday, the Fighting Scots will cap off the regular season by hosting D'Youville College at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
Statistical Leaders
With eighteen out of twenty matches completed so far, Edinboro holds a (10-8) overall record and (2-3) in PSAC play. The Fighting Scots fell out of postseason contention when they were defeated by Mercyhurst last Friday.
Vidisha Pallamreddy holds a team best (11-7) singles record and has won six of her last ten matches. Pallamreddy was named PSAC West Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week back in March.
Marina Zottele follows her with a (9-9) record and has won five of her last ten matches.
Luciana Ponce has gained momentum lately, winning five of her last eight matches, sustaining an (8-7) singles record.
In Doubles the duo Ponce and Rafaella Negrao De Almeida own the best record for Edinboro. The two are (4-4) when they team up this season.
Last Time Out
On Friday, the Fighting Scots fell to PSAC West rival Mercyhurst 0-7. The Lakers grabbed an early lead by gaining the advantage in doubles play. The Fighting Scots put forth a hard-fought effort but were swept in the three doubles matches. Vidisha Pallamreddy and Sandra Riecken fell in a close match to Valentine Budin and Sara Bertolez Puente 4-6. Luciana Ponce and Rafaella Negrao De Almeida also were defeated in a tight one as they fell to Kayla Dean and Rosin Murphy 4-6.
In singles the pattern would continue in the favor of Mercyhurst. The Lakers would go on to sweep all six of the matches in singles. Ponce forced a third set against Naomi Jahr but was defeated by Naomi Jahr 6-4, 4-6, 5-10. Pallamreddy was also relentless in her efforts against Dean but fell 3-6, 2-6.
Seton Hill Scouting Report
Seton Hill is a member of the PSAC conference out of the Atlantic Region. The Griffins currently hold a (5-8) overall record and are (1-3) in conference play, placing them in sixth place only ahead of Clarion. In their recent match, Seton Hill was defeated by Slippery Rock, 0-7.
D'Youville Scouting Report
D'Youville is a member of the East Coast Conference (ECC) out of the Atlantic Region. The Saints currently hold a (3-8) overall record and are (0-5) in conference play. In their recent match, D'Youville was defeated by Daemen, 0-7.
