Lock Haven, Pa. – The Edinboro women's cross country team was selected first with 17 first-place votes in the PSAC Preseason Coaches' Poll as voted on by the leagues coaches and announced Tuesday afternoon by the conference office.
 
"We are returning a group of women who desire to be the best that we can be. The attention to detail and focus during practice had been apparent during the beginning of this season," said head coach Nathan Meeuwenberg. "The addition of Kylie Anicic will help, but we return everyone from an already talented roster. Everyone came in with the goal to be at our best come November and December."
 
The Scots have won the last four Atlantic Regional Championships and three straight PSAC titles after claiming both championships a season ago.
 
Four First-Team All-Conference athlete return for Edinboro from last year's championship squad. Kimberly Goerss turned in the Scots best performance at the NCAA Atlantic Regional finishing third. Sheilah Cheruiyot finished second in the PSAC Championships while Anna Alberti was the PSAC's sixth-place finisher while Kate Szep rounded out the first-team at 15^th.
 
The Scots also add Anicic who was a standout for the Edinboro track & field teams in 2021-22 qualifying for the NCAA Championships in both indoor and outdoor.
 
"I'm excited to start the 2022 season and prove that we deserve to be at the top of the preseason poll," said Goerss. "We have a strong team that is looking to build upon last year's PSAC and Regional Championships."
 
Seton Hill checks in at second in the PSAC poll followed by Slippery Rock. Lock Haven and Bloomsburg round out the top five.
 
Edinboro opens the season with their home meet the Doug Watts Open on Sept. 3. The PSAC Championships is slated for Nov. 5 and the NCAA Regional scheduled for Nov. 19. NCAA National Championships are set for Dec. 3.
