Edinboro, Pa.- The Fighting Scots travel to Notre Dame (Ohio) on Saturday, Aug. 7. to begin their 2022 season with kickoff scheduled for 12 p.m. This is Edinboro's only game out of conference before their schedule switches to PSAC West play.
"It is with great anticipation that we are entering the 2022 soccer season." said head coach Gary Kagiavas. "We graduated many players and leadership last season but I'm excited to coach this group of players. Many of the current players got a lot of playing time due to the many injuries that hit our team last October. This experience will hopefully carry us through this year. We have also been able to add a few incoming freshmen that will need to contribute immediately. I think we will be a competitive group with increased depth in many positions. Scoring will be a challenge with many forwards not being used to playing against this level of competition. This is going to be an exciting season with many of the players contributing."
The 2021 season saw Edinboro make it to the PSAC quarterfinals after a 9-9 record on the season. Edinboro began the season with a 100% record over the first five games, with a highlight win against the eventual PSAC West leaders Mercyhurst.
The Fighting Scots face Notre Dame (Ohio) in their first competitive game of 2022. The Falcons went 6-9-3 overall last year, making it to the MEC first round. Edinboro took a 1-0 victory over Notre Dame last season, Morgan Wissner the goal scorer on the day.
The Fighting Scots welcome 17 new players to the squad looking to add strength in depth in all positions. Edinboro's returning players will look to provide experience off the back of last season with many contributing throughout.
Reece Enochs enters her sophomore year after a promising first year for the Scots. Enochs finished with three goals and three assists, placing second in the points table for Edinboro. Lexi Boyk returns to the attack for her junior year after scoring three goals in the 2021 season.
Midfield duo Clare Crossley and Maggie Hays enter the 2022 season looking to add to the creativity of the team. Hays played in all 18 games last season, starting in nine.
Defenders Haydn Paxton and Layne Kimple return to the back line after playing the most minutes out of our returning players in the 2021 season.
The Fighting Scots begin their PSAC West schedule away at Mercyhurst on Aug. 31. Edinboro's first game at Sox Harrison Stadium is scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Saturday Sept. 3. against UPJ.
