Edinboro, Pa. – Edinboro open their home season on Saturday afternoon when they take on the Mountain Cats of Pitt-Johnstown. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Edinboro enter the game 0-2 with a defeat in their PSAC opener on Wednesday to Mercyhurst. UPJ currently holds a 0-1-1 record after a tie against Shepherd University and a 1-0 loss to Lock Haven.
The Fighting Scots
- Edinboro fought back in the second half of their matchup against Mercyhurst. The Scots reduced the deficit to 3-1 in the 75th minute, nearly cutting the lead to 3-2 if not for a penalty save late on.
- Reece Enochs scored the first Edinboro goal of the 2022 season. Enochs had three shots in total with two on target.
- Lexi Boyk grabbed the assist for the Boro goal. Boyk was later fouled to win Edinboro a penalty in the 87th minute after some terrific wing play.
- Edinboro was victorious in both meetings with UPJ last season. First, a 1-0 win away, Morgan Wissner scoring the game-winner. The second win came in the final home game of the 2021 season, a 3-1 result saw Lexi Boyk and Hadyn Paxton get on the score sheet.
Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats
- The Mountain Cats opened their season with a 1-1 tie with Shepherd University. Haley Neidig scored in the 19th minute to give UPJ the lead before Shepherd tied the game in the 31st minute.
- UPJ began their home season with a 1-0 loss to Lock Haven. The game saw UPJ have 11 efforts at goal with five on target.
- Haley Neidig leads the team in shots attempted with four, whilst also playing the most minutes out of any outfield player so far this season.
- Pitt-Johnstown's only victory against Edinboro came in 2019 in a thrilling 4-3 game.
Both teams will be looking to record their first win in what is still an early stage of the season. Edinboro play at home again on Wednesday, Sept. 7 against Gannon University, kickoff 6 p.m.
