Soccer travel to UPJ to begin the second half of the season

Edinboro, Pa.- Edinboro women travel to UPJ on Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff where they look to begin the second half of the season with a win. The Fighting Scots enter the game 1-6-2 overall with their opponents UPJ currently 4-4-2, both teams will be looking to start October with a positive result.  

Your Fighting Scots 

  • Edinboro fell to a 2-0 loss on Wednesday night to Cal U. The game saw Edinboro have positive chances but were unable to convert. Cal U took advantage of two first-half goals to secure the victory, aided by a penalty just before halftime. 

  • Edinboro registered eight shots with four on target. Reece Enochs saw both of her efforts saved by the Cal U goalkeeper, and Lexi Boyk also had two attempts with one saved.  

  • Kaylee Lauriel had seven saves in the game, facing 11 shots with nine on target.  

  • Reece Enoch remains first in the points table for Edinboro with two goals on the season. Avery Grischow, Devin Keidel, and Megan Malits are the other goal scorers for Edinboro so far this season with one goal each. 

  • Haydn Paxton leads the way in minutes played this season for outfield players, having played 757 minutes over nine appearances. 

  • The first meeting between the two teams this season saw the team tie 2-2. Reece Enochs and Megan Malits were on the score-sheet for Edinboro, with the team having 11 attempts in the game. 

  • Edinboro came from 1-0 down to lead the game 2-1 with 20-minutes remaining, conceding in the final seven minutes. 


Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats  

  • UPJ has recorded four wins since they last met with Edinboro. Their first of the season came against Cal U, winning 2-0 at home. They then won away at Clarion in the following game. They have had two impressive results coming against Slippery Rock in a 1-0 win away and a 1-0 win at home in their last game against Gannon.  

  • Sophia Lamesta scored the game-winner against Gannon in a game where they went toe-to-toe with the PSAC West leaders. They allowed 14 attempts in the game but replied with 13 of their own.  

  • Emily Esser and Haley Neidig lead UPJ in scoring with three goals each. Esser is atop the points table for the Mountain Cats with nine points, adding three assists alongside the three goals.  

  • Sachi Negri has started in goal in all 10 games so far this season. Negri has 74 saves with a save percentage of 0.841.  

  • In the reverse fixture with Edinboro Emily Esser and MacKenzie Stephens were the scorers for UPJ. The Mountain Cats had 11 attempts in the game, forcing Kaylee Lauriel into two saves in the game.  


Next Up 

Edinboro begins its two-game home stand on Wednesday, Oct. 5 against Mercyhurst University. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Sox Harrison Stadium.
