Men’s Basketball set for Homestand this Week

Edinboro, Pa. -- After coming off a big road win over Clarion on Saturday, the Edinboro men's basketball team will be back at home this week on Monday and Wednesday as they host IUP and Pitt-Johnstown. The Scots welcome two of the top-three teams in the PSAC West, including the national top-ranked IUP Crimson Hawks. Monday's matchup is set to start at 7:30 with IUP and the same time on Wednesday with Pitt-Johnstown. 

Last Time Out 
Edinboro enters the Week with a (5-11) overall record and (3-8) in the PSAC conference. On Saturday Edinboro battled Clarion on the road during the first matchup of the season for the two PSAC West teams. 

The Scots grabbed their first win of 2023 after a 73-69 final over the Golden Eagles. Edinboro finished with five players reaching double figures, including Naim Miller who finished with 19 points and six rebounds. Miller was able to ice the game with free-throws in the final minute after a comeback effort from Clarion was cut short. Edinboro shot 48.4% from the field in the second half during a winning effort and recorded 42 points in the paint.  

As a Team 
With a current (3-8) record in the PSAC conference, Edinboro sits in the seventh spot out of the West and is one game behind California. 

On the season Edinboro has averaged 69.4 points per game while shooting 41.6% from the field and 30.1% from three-point land. 

Edinboro controls the pace with their dominance down low. The Scots are fourth in the PSAC for combined team rebounds as they average 38.1 per game. 

The Scots dominance down low continues with blocked shots. Edinboro ranks fifth in the conference for blocked shots, Edinboro swats 3.67 shots per game. 

Individual Leaders 
Miller is Edinboro's leading scorer at 15.8 points per game and is shooting 34.9% from deep. Miller has reached double figures in Edinboro's last 12 games. 

Kierell Green averages 13.5 points per game for the Scots to go along with 7.6 rebounds per game. 

Dominique Keyes is fresh off his seventh double-double of the season and currently averages 11.1 points 10.4 rebounds per game. 

IUP 
The Crimson Hawks of IUP enter the contest with a perfect (17-0) overall record and (11-0) in the conference after their recent 87-70 win over Cal. IUP is ranked first in the PSAC West standings. 

IUP has averaged 78.6 points per game while averaging a +19.4-scoring margin. The Crimson Hawks are shooting 47.5% from the field and are connecting on 35.4% of their shots from beyond the arc. IUP leads the conference in both opponent field goal percentage and three-point percentage.  

Shawndale Jones leads the PSAC in scoring at 20.6 points per game along with 4.9 rebounds per game. Dave Morris adds in 17.1 points per game on 44.5% shooting. 

Pitt-Johnstown 
The Mountain Cats of Pitt-Johnstown enter the contest with a (12-5) overall record and (8-3) in the conference after their recent win 72-68 over Slippery Rock. Pitt-Johnstown is ranked third in the PSAC West Standings. 

Pitt-Johnstown has averaged 75.5 points per game while averaging a +6.0-scoring margin over their opponents. The Mountain Cats are the most efficient shooting team in the PSAC in both field goal percentage, as well as three-point percentage. Pitt-Johnstown is shooting 50.8% from field goal range and connecting on 43.5% of their three-pointers. 

John Paul Kromka leads the Mountain Cats in scoring and rebounding. Kromka is averaging 16.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Andrew Shull is averaging 11.3 points per game while leading the team with 33 three-pointers on the season at an efficient 51.6%.

After Wednesday's game, Edinboro will travel to Gannon to take on the Golden Knights on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
