Carlisle, Pa. – The Edinboro men's swimming team got their season underway with a strong showing at the PSAC Fall Sprint Frenzy and Fall Invitational on Friday.
At the Sprint Frenzy, the Scot 200-yard medley relay team of Armando Apigna,
Jake Hillibush, Tom Collins and
Ted Kinney finished second in a time of 1:39.78. The 3x100 backstroke relay squad of Apigna, Collins and
Braden Hain finished in a time of 2:49.61 good for third.
In the 50-yard backstroke three Scots posted top-10 times. Apigna finished in fourth with a time of 25.86.
Kevin Santos touched the wall in 27.19 to finish seventh while
Brian Bell was ninth in a time of 27.80.
Jacob Bettano posted a time of 29.14 in the 50 breaststroke to finish in seventh and Hillibush added a 10
th place time of 29.37. Collins added a time of 25.05 in the 50 butterfly to earn ninth place.
In the Fall Invitational, the Scots earned four PSAC qualifying times in the opening swim of the season. In the 50-yard freestyle Hain and Kinney touched the wall in matching times of 22.14 to reach the PSAC qualifying mark and taking sixth place.
Collins also recorded a PSAC cut time in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.97 finishing fifth. Apigna finished in sixth in the 100 backstroke with a PSAC qualifying time of 55.28. Santos also scored a top 10 finish in the 100 back with a time of 57.52.
Apigna was the Scots top finisher in the 100 IM with a time of 58.57 good for sixth. Santos was 10
th in the 100 IM in a time of 59.62.
Hain was eighth in the 100 freestyle touching the wall in 49.70. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of
Luke Edmonds,
Frank Barger, Hain and Kinney were third in a time of 1:28.04.
The Scots return to action on Oct. 27 when they host Notre Dame College inside McComb Fieldhouse at 5 p.m.
