Lansing, Mich. – The Edinboro wrestling team put eight wrestlers inside the top eight in the freshman and sophomore division and
Jared McGill on the podium in the open division at the Michigan State Open on Saturday.
Brody Evans finished second at 174 opening his day with a 21-6 tech fall of Darrin Alward from Davenport. In the quarters, he picked up a 4-1 decision in sudden victory. Evans advanced to the finals scoring a 4-0 decision over Northern Illinois. In the title bout, Evans fell 1-0 to Jeremy Olsko of Ohio.
Garrett McChesney was the other Scots to finish second. He opened with a 5-1 decision over Micah Cotrell of Findlay. In his quarterfinal match with Northwestern's August Hibler, McChesney scored a 13-9 decision. McChesney majored Ramon Salazar of Oklahoma State 14-4 to advance to the final. In the final, he dropped a 5-0 decision to Tyler Guerra.
Kade Sottolano turned in a third-place finish at 285. He scored a 71-2 tech fall over Kent State's Ryan Dimmick in the opening round. He then majored Dominic Burgett of Purdue 9-0. Sottolano dropped a 4-2 decision to Cash Henderson in the semis. He advanced to the third-place match with a 4-1 decision over Aidan Fockler of Central Michigan. In the third-place match, Sottolano tallied a 7-0 decision over Ohio's Wyatt Schmitt.

Aden Roe posted a sixth-place finish. Roe scored a major of Abel Ngoh of Kent State 9-0 in the first round. In the quarterfinals Roe won 7-6 in the first tiebreaker. Roe dropped hit semifinal match11-3 to Brentan Simmerman of Kent State and then took two medical forfeits to finish sixth.
Landon Bainey placed fifth for the Scots at 125. After scoring a fall over Zachary Koenig in the first round, Bainey fell to Ashton Jackson of Purdue 6-3. He scored back-to-back decisions over Reid Spurley of Wisconsin and Talan Parson of Northern Illinois. In the consolation semifinals, Bainey dropped a 17-1 tech fall to Dedrick Navarro of Northwestern. Bainey accepted a no contest to take fifth.
Anthony Ferraro opened his day with a 5-0 decision over Tee Ward of Northern Illinois. He picked up an 11-1 major of Wisconsin's Elliott Biba. In the quarters, Ferraro topped Cole Solomey of Purdue 10-2. After dropping a 10-4 decision in the semis, Ferraro dropped a 7-2 decision to Lucan O'Brien of Northern Illinois. He met up with Solomey again in the fifth-place match this time a 2-0 decision for Ferraro.
Elijah Makel was the third Scot to place fifth on the day. He dropped his opener 5-4 to Corey Boerio of Kent State. Makel scored back-to-back falls in the consolation matches, before dropping a 9-3 decision to Ohio's Evan Wingrove. Makel scored another fall in the fifth-place match needing just 34 seconds to pin Benjamin Leece.
Hunter Hutchenson placed sixth at 174. He fell 15-2 to Olsko in the quarterfinals. He bounced back with a 17-2 tech fall over Darrin Alward and then a 4-2 decision over Waylon Wehler. In the consolation semis, Hutchenson dropped a 4-2 decision to Damarion Ross of Northern Illinois. In the fifth-place match, Hutchenson fell 13-3 to Connor Smith.
In his season debut, McGill posted a fifth-place finish in the Open 184-pound division. He opened the day and his season with a 17-1 tech fall over Spencer Steiner of Northern Illinois. In the quarters, McGill topped Cody Brenner of Central Michigan 5-1. Jersey Robb handed McGill an 8-5 loss in sudden victory in the semifinals. Michigan's Codei Khawaja won by injury default in the consolation semis. McGill accepted a medical forfeit to take fifth.
The Scots are back in action on Nov. 15 when they host Geroge Mason in MAC dual action. Wrestling is slated for a 7 p.m. start inside McComb Fieldhouse.
