Erie, Pa. – The Edinboro women's tennis team dropped a pair of non-conference matches to Fairmont State and Bloomsburg.
Against the Falcons, the Scots dropped two of the three doubles points with
Sofia Benito and
Cecilia Carayol scoring a 6-3 victory over Jada Okoye and Maria Fonseca at number two.
Hope Backx scored a 6-3, 6-1 win over
Luciana Ponce. Laura Maciel scored a 6-3, 6-1 victory over
Lara Sener. Okoye closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Rafaella Almeida.
In the match with Bloomsburg, the Scots dropped a 4-3 decision to the Huskies.
Bloomsburg claimed the doubles points winning number one and number two doubles. Sener and Ponce scored a 6-4 win for Edinboro at number three doubles.
The Scots claimed the points at number one and number two singles. Carayol was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Alexis Quackenbush while Ponce was a 6-4, 6-2 victor over Nicole Ilkovic.
Benito dropped a 7-6, 6-3 win over Jennifer McDonald at number three singles. Sener fell behind Dasha Nakonechna 1-6 but rallied with wins in the second and third sets by identical 6-2, 6-2 scores.
Lia-Sophie Seele defeated a 6-3, 7-6 win over Almeida at number five. Lily Sierka closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Maria Salomao.
The Scots are back in action on Wednesday when they host IUP at 4 p.m.
