Connor Munson capped a stellar season with Second-Team All-American honors in the decathlon Friday afternoon at the NCAA Championship Meet.
He finished with a final score of 6723 points. He led the field in the pole vault and took sixth in the shot put and was seventh in the 1,500.
Munson turned in the top performance in the decathlon pole vault clearing 5.00 meters breaking his own Edinboro record that he set at the PSAC Championship meet.
On Thursday, Munson started the championship meet with a time of 11.30 in the 100-meter dash placing 16
th. Munson was 12
th in the long jump with a distance of 6.64 meters.
His throw of 12.42 meters in the shot put placed him sixth. In the high jump, Munson cleared 1.81 meters taking 15
th. Day one wrapped up with a 14
th-place finish in the 400 meter with a time of 52.48.
Friday started with the 110-meter hurdles. Munson ran 15.64 to take 13
th. Munson was ninth in the discus throwing 36.03 meters.
His record-setting performance in the pole vault earned him 910 points. Munson was 15
th in the javelin with a throw of 37.86 meters and closed out the decathlon with a time of 5:00.08 in the 1,500-meter placing 10
th.
Munson becomes the first Edinboro field athlete to earn All-American honors since Ed Brown was an All-American in the discus. He is the first Fighting Scot decathlete to be an All-American since Mark Dingman in 1995.
