SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Edinboro track & field teams finished the PSAC Championship Meet Saturday in Shippensburg.
"I'm incredibly proud of the fight and resilience our athletes had this weekend," said Director of Track & Field
Jamison Dietrich. "The multi athletes started us off with good momentum and the positivity rolled all the way through the championship from there. Good performances and success are contagious. Once one athletes has a good day, it becomes much easier for others to also believe they can perform well too."
The Edinboro women finished eighth scoring 39 points. The Fighting Scots had a pair of scoring relays with the 4x100 quartet of
Mackenzie Huston,
Sophia Allison,
Noa Arlandis Bernet and Annabelle Briones finishing eighth in a time of 49.29. Huston and Bernet teamed up with Maddie Hayes and
Morgan Wilhelm in the 4x400 finishing in 3:57.56 to take seventh.
Jada Cole earned second place in the high jump clearing 1.73 meters. In the 400-meter hurdles, Huston ran a 1:02.49 to take third.
Kadi Bauer and
Madeline Hammond finished seventh and eighth respectively in the 1,500-meter. Bauer crossed the line in 4:46.62 while Hammond checked in at 4:46.62. Hammond added an eighth place finish in the women's 800-meter in 2:23.45.
The men's team also finished eighth. The Scot 1,500-meter runners turned in a pair of placing performances led by
Shea McCusker finishing second in a time of 3:51.13.
Ralph Antonucci was sixth crossing the line in 3:58.14.
Antonucci also placed in the 5K, taking sixth with a run of 15:28.79.
Logan Kerstetter was eighth in the javelin with a throw of 57.12 meters.
"Our underclassmen men especially performed incredibly well," continued Dietrich. "It's very difficult to place in the top 8 as a freshman but we were fortunate to have many do just that. Shea, Donnie, Ralph, Wes, Wieger, and Logan all scored points as true freshmen. Shea was even conference runner up behind the current PSAC record holder in the 1500. It's hard to ask for a better weekend than what we had. There will always be some disappointments at the conference meet but the fight, the effort, the drive to perform well is there. Our program has taken a huge step in the right direction this year. We have so many young athletes making big contributions and many that are so close to scoring. We will keep rising from here. I can't wait to roll this momentum into cross country and next year's track season."
