Bethlehem, Pa. – Madeline Newark brought home a PSAC Championship in the pentathlon to lead the Fighting Scot Track & Field teams on Day One of the PSAC Championship Meet.
 
Newark was consistent across the board in the pentathlon finishing in the top five in each event including posting the top mark in the high jump clearing 1.64 meters. She finished with a total of 3,441 points. In addition to Newark's 10 team points, Morgan Wilhelm also scored for the Scots in the pentathlon taking sixth with 3,052 points to earn three team points.
 
Bernadette Zukina posted the top qualifying time in the 400-meter crossing the line in 58.06. Madison Hays also advanced to tomorrow's final with a time of 59.53 the fifth best qualifying time. Zukina also reached the final in the 200-meter finishing in 25.52 the third fastest qualifying time.
 
On the men's side, the Edinboro quartet of Garrett Bartlebaugh, Ethan Quezada, Donald Scymske and Shea McCusker finished fifth in the distance medley relay to score the Scots first team points of the meet.
 
In the pole vault, Connor Munson cleared 4.68 meters to tie for fifth and bring 3.5 team points to the Scots.
 
"Overall we had a solid day," said head coach Taylor Cudquest. "Some things went our way and some things didn't. We still have opportunities to build on what we did today looking forward to our mile runners and high jumpers for both the men and women as well as the women's 400, 200 and 4x400 relay and the men's 800."
 
Edinboro returns to action on Sunday for Day Two of the PSAC Championship Meet.
