EDINBORO, Pa. (Nov. 3, 2011) – Trevor Harris' quest for a career in professional football has taken another turn. The former Edinboro University standout has signed with the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League for the 2012 season.
“I feel very fortunate to go down to Orlando and have coach Munsey believe in me,” stated Harris. “The plan is to go down there and exceed expectations, not just do well.”
Harris played last season with the Arizona Rattlers, serving as the backup to MVP Nick Davila on a Rattlers team which reached the Arena Bowl. He completed 25 of 37 passes for 272 yards with 7 TDs and 0 INTs. His best outing came in a 69-20 win over Tulsa, as he threw for 104 yards and 3 TDs.
That was more than enough to impress Predators coach Bret Munsey. "The experience he got in Arizona is very valuable," Munsey commented at the time of his signing. "He did an outstanding job from what we've seen on film. He's got a great arm and nice touch on his passes and he's willing to stay in the pocket to make some things happen."
Munsey said Harris will be given the opportunity to step in and lead the team as its starting quarterback entering training camp.
"I strongly believe he's the next up-and-coming star in the Arena Football League," Munsey said. "Both on and off the field he's everything we want in our organization. He's got great character and great leadership skills, which is so important for a quarterback."
Harris played for the Fighting Scots from 2006-09, enjoying a brilliant career in which he broke every Edinboro passing and total offense record, along with finishing in the top five in every PSAC career statistical category, and in the top ten in Division II history.
A two-time Harlon Hill Trophy finalist and three-time regional finalist, Harris finished his career with 11,899 yards passing, good for second all-time in the PSAC and fifth all-time in Division II. In addition, his career total of 12,691 yards in total offense was also second all-time in the PSAC and sixth in Division II. Harris totaled 100 career passing touchdowns, second in the PSAC and 15th in Division II. He set a new PSAC career record for completions (966), while standing third in career pass attempts in the PSAC with 1,464. He became the first Edinboro quarterback to throw for at least 2,500 yards all four seasons, and also to throw for at least 20 TDs all four seasons.
“Getting started at Edinboro was the key,” stressed Harris. “People like coach (Scott) Browning and coach (Jim) Henson have been invaluable. I just thank God for leading me down this path.”
Harris earned All-PSAC West first team honors three straight years, and was a second team choice as a freshman. He was a two-time Football Gazette honorable mention All-American, and was also named a D2Football.com honorable mention All-American twice. Harris was the 2007 and 2008 PSAC West Offensive Player of the Year. In addition, as a junior he was named the Daktronics Super Region One Offensive Player of the Year.
Harris signed with the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars following the 2010 NFL Draft, making it to the final cut. He most recently served as a backup quarterback on the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League. He is currently serving as a volunteer assistant coach with Edinboro, tutoring his younger brother, Cody, Edinboro's starting quarterback.
