Harris' Five Touchdowns Key Boro In 35-19 Win At Lock Haven

Cody Harris accounted for five touchdowns in Edinboro's win at Lock Haven on Saturday.
Box Score (New/Sortable Format) LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Cody Harris accounted for five touchdowns and 331 yards in total offense to lead Edinboro to a 35-19 win over Lock Haven at Hubert Jack Stadium on Saturday afternoon.  The win boosted Edinboro to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC West, while Lock Haven is now 0-4 and 0-2, respectively.

The Fighting Scots have now won 12 straight games against the Bald Eagles and in the process extended Lock Haven's losing streak to 46 straight games.  That ties the NCAA Division II record for consecutive losses held by Minnesota-Morris.

After a slow start the Edinboro offense scored on four of five possessions late in the first half and early in the second to build a 35-13 lead.  All four scores came in quick fashion, with the longest just 2 minutes and 50 seconds.

Harris completed 27 of 38 passes for 280 yards with 3 TDs and an interception, adding 51 yards rushing and 2 TDs on 10 carries.  Marcus Johnson caught 5 passes for 75 yards, while D'Andrea Vaughn also hauled in 5 passes for 70 yards.  The Fighting Scots finished with 416 total yards while Lock Haven had 296 total yards.

LHU's Jarrett Kratzer completed 17 of 31 passes for 172 yards with 2 INTs.  The Scots held Brandon Brader, who burned them for 168 yards a year ago, to 38 yards on 23 carries, although he did score a pair of touchdowns.  Matthew Gibson had 38 yards on three rushes.

Edinboro opened the scoring on its first possession after holding the Bald Eagles to a three-and-out.  A short Lock Haven punt, along with a 25-yard return by Ben Eisel, gave the Fighting Scots the ball at the LHU 16.  Three plays later the Scots were in the end zone on a two-yard sprint by Cody Harris to the left side of the end zone.

The Fighting Scots looked like they were ready to build on the lead after Branden Williams recorded his 15th career interception on the very next play.  Edinboro would move from the LHU 38 to the nine, but the drive stalled and Sean Seefeldt's 26-yard field goal attempt was wide to the right.

Lock Haven, held scoreless for the first three games, proceeded to dominate the action for the next quarter.  The Bald Eagles put together a 14-play, 80-yard drive that ate up 6 minutes and 42 seconds.  Krazter completed four passes in the drive for 48 yards, then scrambled 11 yards to take it to the Boro seven. A pair of Brader runs, the second covering three yards, accounted for the final seven yards to tie the game.

Marcus Johnson
Following an Edinboor punt, the Bald Eagles took over and put together another impressive march, this one covering 70 yards in seven plays.  The big play was a 47-yard connection from Kratzer to James Wilbern to the Boro 17.  Brader scored his second touchdown on a six-yard burst up the middle.  Noah Heimer's extra point attempt was wide to the left, leaving Lock Haven with a 13-7 lead with 12:49 remaining in the second quarter.

Edinboro scored twice in a span of just over three minutes late in the half to take the lead at intermission.  Both drives started in Lock Haven territory as the defense started to slow down the Bald Eagles.

Harris completed a pair of passes to Vaughn, the first for 10 yards and the second for 16, putting the Scots at the LHU 10.  Following a one-yard run by Vaughn, Harris dropped back to pass, then pulled it down and went up the middle for a nine-yard TD run, diving into the end zone.  Seefeldt's extra point capped the four-play, 36-yard drive and gave the Scots the lead at 14-13 with 3:23 remaining.

Lock Haven would drove into Edinboro territory late in the half, but the Boro D stopped the Bald Eagles on a 4th-and-2 play as Alex Gluvna and James Jackson three Brader for a one-yard loss.

The clock showed just 39 seconds, but the Scots needed just half of that to reach the end zone.  Harris directed a lightning-quick three-play, 55-yard drive covering 20 seconds that started with passes of 10 and 25 yards to Vaughn.  On the third play he found Eisel alone down the middle, with the sophomore wide receiver catching it at the five and juking a defender to complete a 20-yard scoring play, the first of Eisel's career.  That gave the Scots a 21-13 lead at the half.

The Scots took the second half kickoff and went 69 yards on nine plays, lasting 2:50.  Harris did the majority of the damage, rushing for 24 yards and passing for 36 yards.  His 13-yard run on the option gave the Scots a first down at the Lock Haven 17, and on the next play he found Johnson for a 17-yard touchdown.  Harris improvised with a spin move, then hit Johnson in the far right corner of the end zone for the 28-13 lead with 12:10 left in the third quarter.

After a three-and-out for Lock Haven, the Bald Eagles were called for interference on the punt return, and Edinboro had another short field to work with at the LHU 37.  The Scots would reach the 15, but a fake field goal attempt failed as Kellen O'Neill's pass fell incomplete.

The defense held Lock Haven again, and this time Eisel returned the ensuing punt 20 yards to give the Scots the ball at the LHU 43.  Following a four-yard loss on a run, Harris completed three straight passes.  The last was wide receiver screen to Johnson, who turned it into a 28-yard score as he broke a couple tackles and sprinted to the end zone,  That gave the Scots a 35-13 advantage with 3:29 to play.

Lock Haven accounted for the lone points in the fourth quarter, as Kratzer capped a 13-play, 63-yard march with a four-yard run.  Branden Williams blocked the extra point.

Edinboro hits the highways once again next week, making its longest trip of the season, traveling to Brookville, NY to face LIU Post.
