INDIANA, PA – The Edinboro men's tennis team advanced to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Team Championship Finals Saturday afternoon, defeating top-seeded West Chester 5-3 on a cold day in Indiana, Pa. The Fighting Scots are now 16-6 on the season and will face Kutztown in the finals tomorrow at 11 a.m.
Colin Bandell,
Amir Talab, and
Kody Duncan led Edinboro with two wins apiece. Bandell and partner
Brandon Romain defeated Chaz Irwin and Patrick McGinley 8-3 in doubles play. He then took down Lars Kristiansen in singles play 6-2, 7-5.
Talab and Duncan defeated Cody Leimback and Wanzall Fleming in doubles, 9-7. Talab scored a singles victory over Connor Dunn 6-3, 6-4 and Duncan defeated Irwin 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.
Once Edinboro earned its fifth win, the last match to finish between Joseph Cooke and
Raffaele Fusulan was rendered moot as there was no chance West Chester could win and so it was not finished.
Edinboro will face familiar foe Kutztown, looking to avenge an 8-1 loss at the hands of the Golden Bears on April 5. The Fighting Scots have not won a PSAC men's tennis championship since 1978 and seek their fourth conference title.
