HEAD COACHES
EDINBORO
Head Coach: Scott Browning (Ohio State '81)
Record at Edinboro: 50-31, eighth year
Career Record: 50-31, eighth year
Scott Browning (Ohio State '81) took over as Edinboro's 13th head coach on January 5, 2006, and in his first six seasons he tied the record for most wins by a coach during that period. Browning is now in his eighth season with a 50-31 record. With the season-opening 35-34 win over Walsh, he became the third coach at Edinboro to reach 50 wins, joining Tom Hollman and Bill McDonald. Browning was certainly no stranger to Fighting Scot football when he was hired as head coach, serving as an assistant coach for the previous twenty years. While at Edinboro he has coached the offensive linemen, defensive backs and running backs, along with serving as the offensive coordinator. Browning became the first head coach at Edinboro to debut with a win since McDonald in 1969 when the Fighting Scots opened the 2006 season with a 28-14 win at West Chester. He went on to lead Edinboro to a 6-5 finish, the most wins ever by a first-year coach. That was followed by a 7-4 finish in 2007. His next two Fighting Scot editions recorded a school-record tying nine wins. in 2008 Edinboro ended the year at 9-2 and was ranked 20th in the final AFCA?Top 25. The Fighting Scots had a 9-4 record in 2009, making the NCAA?playoffs for the first time in his tenure. Edinboro would end the year 24th in the AFCA?poll. The Boro posted back-to-back 7-4 finishes in 2010 and 2011. Last year's 4-6 finish represented Browning's first losing season as head coach.
SETON HILL
Head Coach: Isaac Collins (Rochester '94)
Record at Seton Hill: 0-3, first year
Career Record: 25-11, fourth year
Isaac Collins (Rochester '94) is in his first season as the head coach at Seton Hill. He took over the Griffins' program after serving as the head coach at Widener the last three years. He led Widener to the 2012 Mid-American Conference championship with an 11-1 record. The Pride won the ECAC?Atlantic South Bowl Championship. Collins was recognized as the 2012 MAC?Coach of the Year. He compiled a 25-8 record during his three seasons, including a No. 8 ranking in the AFCA Division III?Top 25. From 2006-09, he served as the defensive coordinator for The Citadel. His 2007 defense led the Southern Conference in total defense. He has also served as an assistant coach at Delaware, Holy Cross, Lehigh, Columbia and Hobart.

THE GAME STORY
Edinboro looks to snap a two-game losing streak while facing Seton Hill for the first time. The Fighting Scots have turned the ball over five times in each of the last two games while suffering a 47-35 loss to 15th-ranked Bloomsburg and a 20-7 defeat at California(Pa.). Coupled with a 35-34 win at Walsh to open the season, the Fighting Scots come in at 1-2.
PSAC?newcomer Seton Hill comes in with a 0-3 record. The Griffins lost to Fairmont State, 37-29, but have struggled to put points on the board since then. They lost 70-7 to East Stroudsburg, and last week turned in a strong effort before lsoing to eighth-ranked Indiana(Pa.), 26-0. The score was just 2-0 late in the third quarter. The loss was the 16th in a row and 28th in the last 29 games.
This marks the first meeting between Edinboro and Seton Hill. The Griffins officially became members of the PSAC, along with Pitt-Johnstown, on July 1. They joined the Western Division, with Lock Haven moving over to the Eastern Division. Edinboro was picked to finish sixth in the PSAC?West in the coaches' preseason poll, while Seton Hill was voted eighth.
Edinboro head coach
Scott Browning became the third coach at Edinboro to reach 50 career wins with the Walsh victory. Now in his eighth season at the helm, the Fighting Scots are 50-31 under Browning. They are looking to rebound from a 4-6 record in 2012, the first losing season under Browning along with the first since 2002. California(Pa.) head coach Mike Kellar is in his second season in charge of the Vulcans' program and has a 10-3 ledger.
The Fighting Scots come in minus a number of key players due to injury. In last Saturday's 20-7 loss at California(Pa.), the offense was missing four starters and the defense two. Most noteworthy was senior quarterback
Cody Harris, who had accounted for nine of Edinboro's ten touchdowns in the first two games. Harris is out indefinitely. Tailback
D'Andrea Vaughn, offensive guard
Kyle Lanich, and wide receiver
Darren Massey were also missing on offense, with the defense having to replace linebacker
Chris Mitchell and defensive end
Blaine Iskula.
Edinboro's 1-2 record has the Fighting Scots in some potentially unfamiliar territory. While this marks the second straight year that Edinboro has started the year at 1-2, the Scots haven't started off a season with three losses in their first four games since 2000. In addition, they haven't been 0-2 in PSAC?West action since the first year of
Scott Browning's tenure as head coach. In 2006 Edinboro opened conference play with losses to Indiana(Pa.) and California(Pa.). Finally, Edinboro is looking to avoid just the third three-game losing streak since Browning took over.
Three of Edinboro's six losses in 2012 came to nationally-ranked teams, and the Scots' first defeat in 2013 was also to a ranked outfit. Edinboro dropped a 47-35 decision to 15th-ranked Bloomsburg, and California(Pa.) was among others receiving votes. In 2012, the Scots lost to then-19th ranked Bloomsburg, 30-14, the opening week of the season, followed by a 24-14 loss to sixth-ranked California(Pa.) the following week. Later in the season 22nd-ranked IUP handed the Boro a 26-10 defeat. The combined record of the six teams Edinboro lost to was 52-18.
Last Week's Results
California(Pa.) 20, Edinboro 7
A banged-up Edinboro team committed five turnovers for the second straight week while losing for the ninth time to California(Pa.) in its PSAC?West opener. The offense was minus four starters, while the defense was shy two regulars. Included among the missing was
Cody Harris, who had missed just one previous game in four years at quarterback. His absence was noticeable, as redshirt freshman
Jon Girvin and true freshman
Matt Bodamer struggled against one of the best defenses in the PSAC. Neither had taken a snap prior to last Saturday, and both showed flashes but were victimized by their inexperience. Edinboro would take a brief 2-0 lead when Cal's punt snap sailed into the end zone for a safety. The Vulcans hit a three-run homer, actually kicked a field goal, for a 3-2 lead on the next series. The Vulcans led 10-2 at the half on a 50-yard TD return of a Bodamer interception.
T.J. Hardy's first career field goal, from 29 yards out, made it 10-5 early in the third period. Cal went up 13-5 following another turnover, with the Boro defense limiting the Vulcans to a field goal. Cal would finally put together a long, sustained drive early in the fourth quarter. The Scots added a second safety on another punt, as
James Jackson tackled the punter in the end zone. A consistent rain hampered the offenses throughout the game, as the Scots finished with 202 total yards and Cal 318.
Indiana(Pa.) 26, Seton Hill 0
The Griffins played their first PSAC?West contest and fell at ninth-ranked IUP. The final score was not indicative of how close the game was, as IUP led just 2-0 at the half but took control with 21 points in the third quarter. Seton Hill missed a pair of field goal attempts and finished with just 115 yards in total offense, including 29 yards rushing. The SHU defense came up with five IUP turnovers. Nick Halfhill completed 14 of 25 passes for 86 yards, with Rafal Garcarz catching four passes for 42 yards. Tyler Zimmer totaled 14 tackles.
Browning Comments ... on the Fighting Scots
"I thought our defense played an outstanding game (against California). They gave up one big play. We had a couple missed tackles, but they really stepped up. They really saved us and kept it close. The defense played an outstanding football game."
Browning Comments ... on the Griffins
"Seton Hill played IUP tough. They're getting better. I think they're trying to get acquainted with the PSAC. One day they are going to get it all together. When they do they will be in good shape."
