WINSTON-SALEM, NC (March 14, 2014) – Edinboro University's
Tabitha Bemis became a three-time indoor track & field All-American on Friday with a record-setting performance in the long jump at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, NC.
Bemis set a new school record as she posted a jump of 6.00 meters (19-8 ¼) to finish second in the long jump. The jump came on her fifth of six attempts and was almost a foot better than any other jump she had during the day. Shanice McPherson of New Mexico Highlands just edged Bemis, as her fourth attempt went for a jump of 6.02 meters (19-9).
Bemis had earned All-American honors in both the long jump and triple jump at the 2012 National Championships. Her best jump coming into the championship meet was 5.85 meters, and she was seeded tenth.
Later in the day Bemis competed in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 8.63. That was just off her school record time of 8.60 set in the PSAC Championships, and would place her 12th. She will compete in the triple jump on Saturday.
Sarah Krolick competed in the 5,000-meter run on Friday. A two-time All-American in cross country and an outdoor track All-American in the 10,000-meter run, the senior had qualified battled injuries since posting her qualifying time in December. She would finish 16th with a time of 18:39.82.
