ERIE, Pa. (March 2, 2014) - The Edinboro men's tennis team defeated Bloomsburg 9-0 on Sunday afternoon in Erie, Pa. at the Westwood Racquet Club. The Fighting Scots had a strong performance and won all nine matches without losing a single set or entering a tiebreaker. Edinboro evens up its record at overall record and PSAC record at 4-4 and 1-1, respectively. The Huskies fell to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in conference.
Matias Aignasse improved to 4-1 on the season with a 6-3, 6-2 with a win over Mike DiSanto in the top singles match.
Juan Estepa won the number two singles match over Denis Ikerjiri 6-2, 6-3.
In the number three singles match,
Bruno Borja improved to 4-1 on the season when playing in the third singles slot. The Brazilian junior defeated Will Humphrey 7-5, 6-1.
Kody Duncan won his second match in a row with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Brayden Shipman in the fourth singles spot.
Amir Talab shutout Kyle Christy 6-0, 6-0 to move to 4-1 when playing as the number five single this year. Taleb is 7-4 this year.
In the last singles match,
Nathan Hansen beat Mortada Stitou 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles play, the combo of Aignasse and Estepa beat DiSanto and Ikejiri 8-0. Aignasse and Estepa are now 3-2 together in doubles.
Borja and Duncan edged Shipman and Humphrey 8-6. The duo of Borja and Duncan have won two in a row and are 2-0 in PSAC play.
In the final doubles match
Thomas Pellegrino and
James Cooper defeated Christy and Stitou 8-3.
The Fighting Scots will have over a week off before hosting Roberts Wesleyan. That match will occur at 12:00 p.m. at the Westwood Racquet Club on Friday, March 14.
