WILLIAMSVILLE, NY (April 14, 2014) - The Edinboro men's tennis team blanked host Daemen by a score of 9-0 in the final game of the regular season on Monday afternoon at the Park Country Club in Williamsville, NY. The Fighting Scots extended their match win streak to seven contests with the victory. Edinboro rolls into the PSAC Championships with a 15-8 record, while the Wildcats drop to 7-15 on the season.
Matias Aignasse picked up his seventh consecutive victory at no. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win, boosting his record to 17-3 this spring.
Bruno Borja (17-10) posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at no. 2 singles, while
Juan Estepa improved to 14-6 on the spring with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the no. 3 singles spot.
Amir Talab (19-7) collected his team-high 19th win on the season at no. 4 singles.
Brandon Romain and
Raffaele Fusulan each picked up 6-0, 6-0 triumphs at the no. 5 and 6 singles positions, respectively.
The Fighting Scots notched three victories in doubles competition, including an 8-3 triumph from the duo of
James Cooper and
Thomas Pellegrino at the no. 3 doubles spot.
Edinboro returns to action on Thursday, April 17, when the Scots travel to West Chester, PA to take on Mercyhurst in the PSAC Championship semifinals. The match is set to begin at 12 noon at West Chester. Edinboro earned the no. 2 seed in the tournament with a 7-2 win over the Lakers on April 10. Mercyhurst comes into the match as the no. 3 seed.
