EDINBORO, Pa. (Jan. 30, 2015) – Mat Mayhem, otherwise known as the NWCA National Duals, comes to Edinboro on Sunday, February 15, 2015. The Fighting Scots will host one of eight regional matches taking place on February 14-15, with the Buckeyes of the Ohio State University providing the competition. The match is scheduled to get underway at McComb Fieldhouse at 1 p.m.
The Edinboro-Ohio State match showcases two of the top nine teams in InterMat's Tournament rankings, with the Buckeyes now second and Edinboro ninth. The Fighting Scots had been ranked fifth for many weeks until dropping this past week.
Lehigh will host George Mason on Saturday, February 14. The other regional matches will take place the next day, with Drexel at Cornell, Oklahoma at Chattanooga, Virginia at Iowa, Kent State at Illinois, American at Missouri, and Minnesota at North Dakota State.
The championship round of Mat Mayhem will take place on February 21-22 at Iowa's Carver-Hawkeye Arena with the quarterfinals and semifinals getting underway on Saturday and the finals and third-place dual continuing on Sunday. The semifinals and finals will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.
A total of 15 Edinboro and Ohio State wrestlers are ranked according to InterMat, including all ten Buckeyes. Each team has three wrestlers ranked in the top five in their respective weight classes.
The highlight of the match is an anticipated meeting of number one vs. number two at 141 lbs. Ohio State's Logan Stieber is a three-time national champion and consensus number one while Edinboro's
Mitchell Port is a two-time All-American who finished as the national runner-up in 2013 and is ranked number two in every poll. Both wrestlers are currently undefeated.
In addition, Edinboro's
Dave Habat ascended into first place in the latest 149 lb. rankings. He could pair off against Hunter Stieber, Logan's brother, who is ranked sixth.
Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased at the Edinboro Athletic Department Offices in room 114 daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Advance sale tickets are priced at $8 for adults and $4 for students. Tickets the day of the event will be $10 for adults and $5 for students. In addition, a special reserved seat section is also available.
