BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (April 19, 2015) – The Edinboro men's tennis team earned a 7-2 victory over Kutztown in its regular season finale on Sunday afternoon in Bloomsburg, Pa. With the win, the Fighting Scots claim the 2014-15 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference regular season title. Edinboro will now be the top seed in next weekend's PSAC Tournament.
The Fighting Scots also won their fifth straight contest and have now won eight of their last nine matches, closing the regular season with a 13-6 overall record and a perfect 5-0 mark in PSAC play. The Golden Bears came into Sunday's matchup undefeated in conference action, but fell to 14-4 on the season and 4-1 in league play.
Edinboro swept doubles competition in the match, as the tandem of
Bruno Borja and
Matias Aignasse won its sixth straight match in doubles play with an 8-6 triumph at No. 2 doubles.
Vitor Albanese and
Brandon Romain earned an 8-5 win at the No. 1 doubles slot, while
Juan Estepa and
Daniel Fernandez were victorious at the No. 3 position by a score of 8-2.
Albanese continued his strong stretch with his ninth consecutive victory in singles play with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Varun Desai at No. 1 singles.
Borja, Fernandez, and Estepa also collected wins in singles competition to help the Fighting Scots to the victory.
Edinboro will return to action in the PSAC Semifinals against West Chester on Friday, April 24 in Bloomsburg, Pa. Match times for the PSAC Tournament have not yet been announced.
