BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (April 24, 2015) – The top-seeded Edinboro men's tennis team advanced to the PSAC Championship for the third season in a row with a 5-0 shutout win over West Chester in a PSAC Semifinal match on Friday afternoon at the Burt Reese Tennis Center in Bloomsburg, Pa. The Fighting Scots will look to defend their conference title against local rival Mercyhurst on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Lakers were victorious by a score of 5-4 over Kutztown in the semifinals on Friday.
Edinboro extended its winning streak to six matches with the triumph, as the Fighting Scots improved to 14-6 on the season. Edinboro has also won nine of its last 10 contests. The fourth-seeded Golden Rams dropped to 8-10 with the loss.
The Fighting Scots swept doubles competition, as the duo of
Vitor Albanese and
Brandon Romain won by way of tiebreaker 9-8 (7-4) at the No. 1 slot.
Bruno Borja and
Matias Aignasse earned an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles, while
Juan Estepa and
Daniel Fernandez captured an 8-5 triumph at the No. 3 position.
A pair of singles wins sealed the victory for Edinboro as Aignasse posted a 6-0, 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot and Estepa earned a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at No. 5 singles.
Edinboro will take on Mercyhurst in the PSAC Championship match tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Bloomsburg, Pa. The Fighting Scots defeated the Lakers by a score of 5-4 earlier this month.
Edinboro is seeking its fifth conference title in school history and can become the first team to win back-to-back PSAC Championships since Kutztown in 2010-11.
