BLUEFIELD, W. Va. (May 4, 2015) – The Edinboro men's tennis team dropped a 5-0 decision to top-seeded Bluefield State in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region 1 Final on Monday in Bluefield, W. Va. The No. 5 seed Fighting Scots close the 2014-15 campaign with a 16-7 overall mark on the season.
 
Edinboro had won eight consecutive matches entering Monday's regional final, including a 5-2 win over fourth-seeded Charleston (W. Va.) yesterday's NCAA Atlantic Regional First Round matchup. The Fighting Scots were making their second straight Atlantic Regional Final appearance after capturing their second Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title this season under fifth-year head coach Lee Underwood.
 
The Big Blues opened the match by sweeping doubles competition, as Vitor Albanese and Brandon Romain were edged at No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-6, while Juan Estepa and Daniel Fernandez dropped a close 9-7 decision at the No. 3 doubles slot. The duo of Matias Aignasse and Bruno Borja saw its 10-match winning streak snap with an 8-4 loss at No. 2 doubles.
 
In singles competition, Bluefield State earned victories at the No. 2 and No. 6 positions en route to the win. The Big Blues now advance to the NCAA Round of 16 to face East Region 2 champion NYIT on May 13 in Surprise, Ariz.
 
The Fighting Scots were red-hot down the stretch for the second consecutive season, winning eight of their last nine matches in 2014-15. Last season, Edinboro won 11 contests in a row, capturing the PSAC and Atlantic Region 2 titles along the way before falling to eventual national champion West Florida in the NCAA Round of 16.
