EDINBORO, Pa. (September 4, 2015) – After a 1-0 win Thursday night against conference opponent Clarion, the Edinboro University women's soccer team has their first home game of the season set to go on Saturday with a match against the Falcons of Notre Dame College (OH) at 1:00 p.m.
Edinboro enters Saturday's match with a 1-0 record in the PSAC. In Thursday's win over Clarion, senior
Jansen Hartmann scored the lone goal in the match in the 34
th minute, assisted by
Lindsay Boss. It was Hartmann's 15
th career goal, moving her into a tie for 11
th in career goals. Goalie
Sierra Davis, a transfer from Cleveland State, recorded the shutout for the Fighting Scots. Edinboro held a 23-6 advantage in shots.
Members of the Mountain East Conference, the Falcons come into Edinboro Saturday with a 1-0 overall record. In their first contest of the season Thursday, they defeated Slippery Rock by a score of 2-1. Down 1-0 just seven minutes in, freshman Sarah Grossman knotted the match with her first career goal in the 19
th minute. In the 37
th minute, senior Sabrina Mottershead knocked in what would be the game winning goal.
When Edinboro and Notre Dame met last season, the Fighting Scots walked out of that contest with a 1-0 win, with Hartmann scoring the lone goal. Notre Dame finished 2014 with a 14-3-2 record, winning the regular season and postseason MEC championships. They qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time, but fell to West Virginia Wesleyan in the first round by a score of 1-0.
After Saturday, Edinboro returns to PSAC action on Friday, September 11 when they take on the Raiders of Shippensburg University at home at 1:00 p.m. Edinboro defeated Shippensburg last season by a score of 1-0.
